12 Steps of MLP

1: We admitted we were powerless over Les pauls and that our lives had become unmanageable.
2: Came to believe that a new Les Paul could restore us to sanity.
3: Made a decision to turn our will and our cash over to Gibson and owners as we understood them.
4: Made a searching and fearless inventory of current Les Pauls.
5: Admitted to MLP, to ourselves and to our cats the exact nature of our wrongs.
6: Were entirely ready to have Gibson remove all these defects of character.
7: Humbly asked ebay to remove our fenders.
8: Made a list of all Guitars we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.
9: Made direct amends to such Guitars wherever possible, except when to do so would get in the way of more Les Pauls.
10: Continued to take inventory and when A Good Les Paul came up, we promptly bought it.
11: Sought through practice and MLP to improve our conscious contact with Guitars, as we understood them, asking only for knowledge of fakes and good deals and the power to carry that out.
12: Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to MLP, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

Have a good 24

If you're wondering, I'm not talking about Epiphone's Elitist line.

Re: 12 Steps of MLP

ok, so if I admit I have a "problem", but have no intention to try and fix said "problem"... ummm.. does that mean I need MORE Les Pauls?

And yes, Elitists RULE and ROCk.. although not necessarily in that order. You could just as easily reverse that...

You either knock off the addiction or keep feeding the beast.

I hope so. If it doesn't work I'll probably end up blowing 5 or 6 grand on more guitars.

Yeah...I'm getting to that point. I've bought 5 guitars just in the past year...

I'm goin' with these questions here on out. If I can answer 'em to my satisfaction...then sure, get the guitar...

1. Can you really afford it in light of the other bills that you have?

2. What will this guitar/gear give you that you already don’t have now?

3. Do you want this guitar specifically for cosmetic reasons alone?

4. If you bought the guitar, how often would you actually play it?

5. What would you have to sell if you got this other guitar?

6. Would your family members be sympathetic or antipathetic over another guitar purchase?

7. Do you already own a model of this guitar or something like it?

8. Is the price worth it in terms of the quality vs. the features?

9. Sonically, what does this guitar offer that the others do not? (Tone wise, etc.)

10. Do you already own guitars that you rarely or never play? Why don’t you play those guitars?

11. Have you tweaked out guitars that you already own to play and sound as best as they can?

12. Have you played the guitar or something like it prior to considering this purchase?

13. If you're considering the guitar as an investment, would you be able to sell it at a profit after purchasing it and making minor adjustments to it?

14. Do you really "need" this piece of gear?

in my practice, below are the definitions i use with patients regarding a "want" versus a "need."

"want" – a preference, something desired but not essential to one's saftey or sense of well-being, optional, additive, negotiable.

"need" – essential to one's saftey (i.e., physical, psychological, emotional) or sense of well-being, non-negotiable, a fixed requirement, the maintenance of is critical.

clearly, based on the above definitions, there is a stringent difference between the two – which is not to rule out obtaining what one wants provided one's needs are met first and/or not at the detriment of another.

sentry, an excellent "decision making" methodology which could be applied to just about anything.

thank you spending the time and mental effort on these 14 questions...
