I'm a HUGE fan, and listen to and play way more Page stuff than Hendrix. Nonetheless, no offense taken!

I'm sorry I had to vote for Hendrix. Jimmy Page is my LEAST favorite FAMOUS guitar player. For some reason his groove was right on with the rest of the band tho.

here's the thing - i was going to vote page as i'm more influenced by his playing style (of the two, that is)

but as i can't do what Jimi did, i'd vote him probably...

having seen Page many times in concert, in various configurations of Zep and Page-Plant, it always sounded to me that he was, for many years until he finally sobered up, much better on his recordings than he was live. Many times he was a drunken mess in concert and showed little sign of his genius. From what I've seen of Hendrix on various film that is easily available now, he seems to be the same. Eddie Kramer was, like Sir George Martin with The Beatles, a consideralble force who helped Hendrix and Page achieve much of what they did in the studio so their genius could come through. Sure there is talent there, huge talent. But both of those guys were often a musical trainwreck in concert. It's an unfair comparison anyway...Two different styles, two different musical mindsets.

It's awful to put these two greats up against each other, but for me Page is the ultimate guitarist/musician/songwriter. But then you put on Band Of Gypsies.. Ah man, this is impossible! Stop it!

hmmm, well jimmy is a gibson player and so are most of you. Jimmy made the les paul popular in the late 60s and 70s while hendrix was playing his thin bodied, lightweight, and single coil strat. I starting to think some of you guys are traitors to the les paul. Yoouu might as well sell all of your les pauls and give them to us page fans! TRAITORS!!!!

Sure Hendrix is best known for his wielding his flipped over Fender Stratocaster, but I have seen plenty of footage of jimi Hendrix using SG's and his custom flying V.
Not sure if this really boils down to a Fender vs Gibson thing? IMO I think a lot of people can see Hendrix for the true guitar pioneer/genius that he was.

Don't get me wrong I have a lot of respect for Mr. Page and what he has contributed to rock n roll, but Jimi took iguitar/music to another level in a way JP did not. Plus Hendrix did it in 3 years and Page has had over 30+ to make his mark. Hendrix was the first rock star to own his own studio as well, imagine what he would have done with better technology?
