Re: Pearly Gates... About time!
Nice! Wonder if they are going to offer a relic aged version as well?

Re: Pearly Gates... About time!
haha! Go to the lifestyle page and the link works from there. Or just click this:
Gibson - Gibson Guitar: Electric and Acoustic Guitars, Bass Guitars, Baldwin Pianos and That's awesome but I wish they would make a spec'd LP without all the relicing and flame top for the regular joes. I would love to have an LP with the Rev's specs but I don't really care to have the exact look. |

Re: Pearly Gates... About time!
As the Rev might say... "HEEELLLLLLL YEEEAAHHHHHH!"
Gibson. Chalk that up as a lesson learned! You FINALLY got off the fad bandwagon and went with a product that just might actually justify the insane price youre gonna charge for it! Without even seeing the finished product, Im gonna give Gibson the benefit of the doubt as presume it to be great. Good Job Gibson. Honestly. I've had very few positive things to say about Gibson over the last year (other than they can make nice guitars (even if overpriced)), but a Pearly Gates replica... geez, it seems like an idea that came down from above! Or maybe from a forum member? In any case, congrats on what I expect will be a VERY strong selling product!! |

Re: Pearly Gates... About time!
Thanks for the heads-up GT. I stuck it on my recent blog post about Billy (also taken from a Gibson.com thang), in which he definitively states the origin of the name ZZ Top. I'll give you a hint: It's named after a famous bluesman.
Full blog entry is at WoodyTone!.

Re: Pearly Gates... About time!
I can only imagine what they're gonna charge for that.
Looks great, tho. - D

Re: Pearly Gates... About time!
See, I gotta disagree. I would rather the guitar be unique. Just a "Pearly Gates Model" is close enough for me. If anything should be closely scrutinized/copied, it should be the pickups. Can you do a to-the-core analysis of pickups without destroying them?? anyone?

Re: Pearly Gates... About time!
I don't usually like signature guitars but in this case it's a Miss Pearly Gate Replica, so it's all cool with me and I would actually get one if I had the money.

Re: Pearly Gates... About time!
On the Seymour Duncan forum, they are saying that the pickups could be the Duncan Pearly Gates.

Re: Pearly Gates... About time!
I would guess that Gibson will go with the SD p/u's.
Having said that I prefer SDs 59's. I've got a couple of SD zebra Pearly Gates on my Epiphone Les Paul Custom and they're really good but my Epi LP Standard has two SD 59's in and they ROCK!!!! |

Re: Pearly Gates... About time!
Pearly Gates got the name because its tone is supposed to be MUCH better than regular production pickups. Anyone can make a guitar that LOOKS like Pearly Gates. Its the TONE that makes it special.
If they arent gonna try to match it then the project is worthless. People should just buy "Pearly Gates COLORED" guitars if the tone wont matter to them. Likewise, if they were JUST gonna use "Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates" Pickups... again. Worthless project. Just a blatant money grab. No value in buying a regular Iced Tea colored Paul for TWICE the price! Would Billy Gates have such high praise for PG if the TONE didnt matter??? I guess not |
