I disagree, removing it frees up the tone 7 fold at least...

Ah--you guys...

Was that a serious question? You're asking whether removing a couple of ounces of plastic will affect the tone...right?

Ummmmm....no.

The pickguard deadens the sound, plastic is an insulator, y'know.

BB, you forgot about the two screws.

They act as a resonance restricter between the two contact points.

I know these things.

NO!

It makes is sound like it lost its balls. Put another one on on top of the one on there, WAY BETTER.

Re: Does removing the pickgaurd really alltar the tone

Actually, the pickguard being screw to the body doesn't let the guitar resonate freely. Removing it will allow your guitar to go along the good vibrations (the song by the beach boys talks about this subject) and sound better.

Go ahead and do it!

PS: This wont work with a 3 ply pickguard. Be careful with those. You'll understand me latter on.

Re: Does removing the pickgaurd really alltar the tone

You should put one on the other side so that the tone for the lower strings is similar to the higher strings... I hate uneven tone.

Re: Does removing the pickgaurd really alltar the tone

Taking it off the first time ruins it. Once you try to put it back on, the tone fails.

Never believe a word from this person's mouth. He's trouble, mark my words.

Hang with him and you'll be making bad decisions before you know it... I mean, heck, you've already decided to leave the pickguard off....

Once you start down this dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny... consume you it will.

I once took the strings off, and it changed the tone.

Actually I have never had a pick guard on my 06' Studio. It has a AAA flame top and no pick guard (no screw holes) it came that way from the factory.

IMO More of a matter of looks than Tone bro
