But when we picture LPs they have pickgaurds, I just wish that gibson comes up with a wooden pickgaurd that can be screwed on by some thingy.

Re: Does removing the pickgaurd really alltar the tone

You, guys, are all crazy!

No, it doesn't alter the tone, it's just a fact of taste: do you prefer the woman with panties or not? It depends! I like the LP with the pickguard, others not.

I wish that Gibson will find another way to screw the pickguard, when removed isn't funny to have the holes of the screws.

No, but those holes are where the tone leaks out.

When you take out the screws, your tone runs out onto the floor (you're probably gonna need a mop). If you ever want to put the pickguard back on, you're gonna need to get it re-filled with tone. If the guitar is chambered, you're gonna need a lot of extra tone to fill up all that empty space, so buy a bigger bottle. Be careful not to spill it, you don't want tone on your carpet or furniture (you don't even want to hear about the time I spilled tone in my lap).

This is also why it's okay if a LP never had a pickguard. Since there are no screw holes to begin with, the tone can't leak out. You can never go wrong with this simple rule: If it has a pickguard - leave it on, if it doesn't - don't put one on.

If I go one step further and remove the pickups, does this change my tone ??

Cheers ...

No, removing the pickups won't affect anything. Remove the jack if your serious about some great tone.

And only use a wooden strap too. Leather and synthetics deaden the vibrations.

No, but removing the guitar cable, on the other hand, will seriously alter your tone!

Re: Does removing the pickgaurd really alltar the tone

You're all full of shit! (in a good way)

But seriously if you want some really kick ass tone buy a pack of cigs, pour gas on your guitar and slowly roast it over a fire and watch what happens!!!!

Dont forget to smoke the cigs AFTER you roast the guitar or you'll be extremely pissed.

CRITICAL!!!! : After the fire goes out piss allllll over it and then finally plug it in and you'll have the best tone imaginable.

I'd bet a lead pickguard or something equally heavy would alter the tone - if it's tied to the bridge, somehow.
Just saying.

Re: Does removing the pickgaurd really alltar the tone

actually it will effect the sq by getting rid of cancellation that the pick guard creates. when you pluck the string, it causes the guitar to vibrate, creating sound waves and if those sound waves hit the pick guard and bounce off it, it alters the sound waves vs not having a pick guard.

also removing the pick guard can increase sustain. if the sound waves bounce off the pick guard and conflict with the sound waves that the strings are making, it creates resistance on the stings, not letting them ring as long, decreasing sustain

just call me Dr. Audiophile, that will be $150 please

Re: Does removing the pickgaurd really alltar the tone

I was inspired so much by this thread that I removed my cream-colored pickguard. I have been debating it for a little while now and this thread pushed me over-the-edge. Don't worry! I quickly replaced the two screws into their original locations as to not lose any tone by having it spill out or to have any unslightly holes! SUCCESS! Happy now!~
