I tried and tried to get the guard back on this one and just could not do it. It's in a better place now

Re: Does removing the pickgaurd really alltar the tone

These guys are just guessing. what really happens is that frequency canceling phenomena of "standing waves" where the tone gets trapped between two parallel planes and cancel each other out. If you change the angle of the pick guard it will resolve your problem. If you add 12 washers between the bracket and pick guard according to test results it should optimize your tone.

the only way to get the Slash Tone is to remove the pickguard

i actually put a pickguard on the other side of the pickups as well, cause it makes it sound EVER BETTER.

Re: Does removing the pickgaurd really alltar the tone

With all do respect, this is the funniest and most ridiculous thread i have ever heard.

There is no difference in tone whatsoever with of without the pickguard on a Les Paul, and those that say so there brain is playing a quick trick on them.

There may be vibrating pickguards, but to alter the tone, that's just silly.

What really does a HUGE difference is the trussrod cover, man with out it the tone of the neck is deeper and more hollow with a resonance of a concert lute.

Re: Does removing the pickgaurd really alltar the tone

I did a test with this. First I had the pick guard on and I recorded me playing parts of "The Ocean" by Zep. Then I went to the fridge and got a beer.

Next, I took off the pick guard and played the same riff. Then I finished off the beer.

The result of the experiment is that removing the pick guard made me thirsty for beer.

Re: Does removing the pickgaurd really alltar the tone

Now guys - Notice the spelling - he wants to ALLTAR the tone.

Everybody knows that if you sacrifice your pickguard on the altar at Kalamazoo, it will improve your tone.

And if you jog ten miles with a TV Junior held above your head it will improve your muscle tone (which might make you play slower...)

This is more possible then this nonsense.

Re: Does removing the pickgaurd really alltar the tone

I was wondering what the hell that hunk of plastic that came with my R9 was. A pickguard, you say? Hmm...

I know when I get my wifes clothes off I tell her to leave them off. If it is like that, I can say that leaving it off is better for the most part. To each his own though.

I also think the tone of the guitar is much better with it off. The wood tone, that is. You can see the purdy top so much better. Cream plastic just doesn't do it for me when a nice flame top is involved. Of course, if you have a butt-ugly guitar, maybe you better put it back on.

David

P.S. Gotta keep these pickguard threads going. There are newbies that really might need this stuff.

I heard that if you leave the pickguard on it improves your staying power by up to 15%. Can anyone either confirm or deny this report?

What I don't get is how does it guard the picks? I lost a brand-new pick last night WITH THE GUARD IN PLACE!!!! How can that be?!?!?!?

PS: This wont work with a 3 ply pickguard. Be careful with those. You'll understand me latter on.
Removing the screw will leave a hole - is that the same as a weight-relieved body?
