Question Pickup installation Seymour Duncan.

Hi I'm trying out new pickups in my Les Paul.

This is what the manual says:

Standard humbucking operation
With a 4-Conductor humbucker: the Red & white wires are solderd together and taped, the green & bare wires are connected to ground, and black wire is the hot output.

The white and red are soldered and taped together, the green is soldered to the pot so the black should be soldered where the only wire from the previous pickup was soldered to ?

I'm sorry about the noob question I just want to do this myself and try to learn something.

Thanks.

Re: Pickup installation Seymour Duncan.

That sounds correct. Both the green and black are connected to the pot, one is the ground and connected to the back (green one) and the other connects to one of the three little tabs sticking off the pot.

Take your time you should be OK.

You can check it on Duncan's site.

That link should provide the answer you need. If not post some more!

Re: Pickup installation Seymour Duncan.

Thanks guys.

One more thing, the manual says the neck humbucker be set 1/8" from the strings.
Converted to mm that's 3mm if I'm right, that's really close, is this correct ?

A bridge humbucker be se 1/16" at the high E-string and 3/32" at the low E-string.

Sound correct to you guys ?
1/16" that's only 2mm, now that's close and 3/32" I don't know how high that is in mm.

Just want some input, I know I should base it on my ears but some comments would be good

Re: Pickup installation Seymour Duncan.

That seems correct. You can adjust humbuckers that close to the strings. This is just a starting point. You can always adjust them later to suit your ear.

Re: Pickup installation Seymour Duncan.

those are just reference points you can go higher or lower dep. on the balance of the vol when you switch from the neck to bridge. if it too loud you go lower etc

i set mine by ear at rehersal or band levels and theyre way lower then the 3mm
