1993 1996 Les Paul Studio Comparison

With all the talk about weight and "chambered not chambered" guitars I decided to weigh my two Studios. I am sure it has been covered here but I don't recall if either of these are chambered or not....someone clue me in here.

At any rate, what I found kind of surprised me. My wine red 1993 weighed right at 9lbs 2oz. My 1996 weighed in at 9lb 10oz! After further comparison I found that the 1996 body was 2mm thicker than the 1993.

What does this all mean? I DON'T KNOW! Just another crazy LP owner......

Re: 1993 1996 Les Paul Studio Comparison

starting in 92, gibson started using a balsa inlay in a routed area next to the switch cavity and a v route near the controls on the studios. This was to lighten them a bit back then due to heavier wood used. You can see these extra routings from inside these two areas (extra slots with no wiring going in to them).
My 91 has this, even though it shouldn't !! I emailed Gibson about this but never rec. any reply ! It should not have been on mine since 92 was suppose to be the 1st year they started this.
