Static noises... Dry Climate sucks!

Its so friggin' dry here in winter that when my Paul's slide across my sweater or jeans *along the back plate* I can hear static 'popping'. Its annoying and I've tried a few things to shield the control cavity. Its only audible between songs, but annoying none-the-less.

My 79 Custom has an 'ashtray' type shield in the cavity that I've long since taken out... I never noticed if it helped or not. I'm thinking I might do the copper lining thing, but I don't think its really worth the expense. There is no hum, or noise other than when it slides across my clothes.

Guess I'll have to start playing naked. Haha

Re: Static noises... Dry Climate sucks!

Have you tried rubbing the control plates with a "Bounce" Fabric Softener dyer sheet?
It works.

Man that sounds so weird... our climate over here doesn't cause such an issue at all... crap summers and mild winters

hmm
that might work. I wonder if you could just put one in the cavity?

I know it's suggested to keep shop safety glasses in a plastic bag with a bounce sheet to keep sawdust from sticking to them due to static.

83135's suggestion sounds weird, but that's actually a great idea. Take the plastic cover off and rub both sides...you should probably rub it on your jeans before the gig too.

Shielding the cavity won't stop the static from forming, but it might keep the noise from passing through the circuit (which is the real problem anyway.) I'd say give it a shot and see if it helps.

Or you could just put your axe in the dryer at a low setting
