Seriously looking at just what these things can do & it fits perfectly into a beginners practice guitar.
Yes it's expensive & yes it does have it's issues but when you think about it this is the perfect niche' for this guitar. ![]() I understand that learning to tune your guitar yourself is absolutely necessary, but this eliminates that initial element from the get go & allows a beginner/student to follow on with their lessons without having to worry about whether or not he/she is in tune. Believe me this makes a world of difference! As a student or beginner starts to question his ability to learn a certain lesson or scale this leaves no room for error or very little if that! Practice does not always make perfect. It's "Perfect Practice" that makes or breaks it. I do think that one day these things will be looked on just like the Apple III or the Amiga PC. However this is the only obvious genuine usable situation that I can find that fits this concept. Not only can they tune to regular standard tuning but they can explore with confidence the other tunings out there as well. Great idea, but poorly executed & certainly way over~priced for what it is, Flame Suit ON!

Eh... no.
![]() What's wrong with spending 2 minutes to tune up before you start practicing? That's what I used to do when I was starting out. I honestly don't even care anymore though, unless the thing is out of tune with itself. As long as it's not too far off from concert pitch and sounds okay to me. |

Okay, Okay!
I am stretching things a bit. But think of the newbies that are really struggling? If it's out of tune you're going to sound horrible. Yes, I know this is how you learn how to tune but.... Well, oKay, there really is no niche' for this contraption!

Re: Gibson Les Paul Robot. I found the perfect use!
I haven't set the intonation on mine yet but every single string on this thing when it says it's in tune is actually FLAT by a MILE!
A country mile! I then tuned it up by hand releasing the machine tuners then snapped them back in & sounded great! But just had to see what the onboard electronics would do &, well, yep! You guessed it pulled the whole thing FLAT! I'm going to have to get a programed tune~set in order to do what it's supposed to on it's on. Either that or the intonation will carry it through, though I'm highly doubting this.

Re: Gibson Les Paul Robot. I found the perfect use!
No one's going to take those guitars seriously until they come down in price.
I don't know the extent of their capabilities. If they could quickly go to open tunings, that might be a bonus for a gig. Or, tune themselves. But that's rock star junk. (And they usually switch guitars every freakin' song anyway.) But for a student? I suppose if your daddy is Bill Gates or Donald Trump...sure, a Gibson Robot is a fine student guitar!!

Re: Gibson Les Paul Robot. I found the perfect use!
I gotta disagree
You should learn on a stick before you get the luxury of a automatic You should learn to tune a guitar yourself, and then when you are a big famous rockstar who can't be bothered to take half a minute to tune your guitar, then you should buy one. I don't even think you should use a tuner, I've used a piano from day 1 |

Re: Gibson Les Paul Robot. I found the perfect use!
I feel pretty confident in saying that tuning the guitar is way, way, easier for a beginner than playing it. Not like we're talking about breaking out a pitch pipe or tuning fork.
In this day and age, if a beginner can't tune one without screwing up, I'd say chances of them learning to do much else with their guitar is close to zero. If Gibson wants to develop something really cool to help beginners, perhaps they could adapt some weed-eater technology, and make one that restrings itself. |

("allows a beginner/student to follow on with their lessons without having to worry about whether or not he/she is in tune." )
![]() a main part of learning the guitar is the ability to train your ear to know when you are out of tune, and how to correct it..I see this (in this circumstance) only becoming a "crutch" if you will.making the student dependant on this "gizmo guitar",and on down the line would find it harder on another guitar because thay were not properly tought simple basic "guitar 101" lessons..If I was the teacher, and see a student walk in to a lesson with one,I cant say I would let them use the "auto tune" ,(and if you couldnt manual tune it )the guitar for that matter....not until I was 100% positive thay could 1-tune buy ear,2- tune with a tuner, and as far as that goes,3-tune a Floyd Rose (OK that may be a little harsh) but then I would know that thay have the whole "tuning "thing down.and that thay will be able to tune ANY guitar, then they could bring in the Robot. and we would go to the next lesson and this goes for any student, not just one with this robot guitar IMHO tuning ,and the ability to tell if you are in tune or not is the first most important thing one can learn/or teach for that matter...

Re: Gibson Les Paul Robot. I found the perfect use!
No I dont, nore do I want to.I have played one and found the headstock to be heavy,(because of the massive tuners on it) and the point being made is a beginner/student not having to worry about being in tune, and to continue with a lesson, and my point was that lesson #1 should be knowing when you are out of tune ,and being able to compensate it(by ear).not to depend on the guitar to do it for them..

Re: Gibson Les Paul Robot. I found the perfect use!
Not for a beginner, now if you were gigging alot and played alot of dif tuned songs at once then maybe.also I think it would be murder on the strings.constantly tightening and loosening...
or is that the Darkfire that does that?
