Les Paul Slash VOS in excellent shape for exchange

Hi guys,
I had not been on my favorite forum for quite some time. I have recently bought a really cool LP Slash VOS and I have to say, it is awesome. I mean, if you are into blues-rock/classic rock and hard rock, you will love the sound. Totally Slash (reason 1 I bought it), but so much more.
However as I do with all my gear, I like to change it up regularly and am putting my Les paul for exchange against YOUR Les Paul (preferably Reissue lemonburst, teaburst, but I am willing to see). Send me some messages with the baby you would like to part with and we will see.

I have played my LP Slash VOS exclusively in a studio environment, no smoking. No scratch, no dent, always put back in its case. It sounds really cool . Let me say one thing. I have seen (real or online) dozens Slash VOS and the tops can vary a lot. You will see from the pics that my top is (1) really amazing and (2) looks exactly like Slash's: Look the vein below the hardware and check it with pictures of Slash's number 1. I have never seen other guitars that have that!!! FOR MORE PICS, Type "cheopsnet", my username, in the search box and you will find threads I started on this great guitar with plenty more pics of mine.

I am evaluating the market here, but I will give more details to people seriously interested (contact me at cheopsnet@gmail.com). The guitar comes with original case and certificate signed by slash.

Thanks
Cheops

Re: Les Paul Slash VOS in excellent shape for exchange

Quite a few things:
- A really cool 3 piece top
- The top has been polished a little bit down so that it is not too shiny and it is looks a little aged (without any relic mark)
- Produced at 400 copies. I agree that Gibson went too far with the number of their SLash Signature and that the market is saturated with all sorts of signature models. HOWEVER this one, along with the aged Vos SLash, are good investments and they really sound good for rock / blues music, you can even play some good jazz with it. It is more versatile than the other Les Pauls I have owned
- Certificate of authenticity signed by the artist, Slash himself
- Great neck and overall great sounding instrument
.....

I personally like to change my gear regularly, but this guitar will not go down in value in the medium run (unlike the goldtop, the sunburst and all these non-limited quantity productions).

3 piece top sounds cheap to me....

The funny thing is that slash and his sound came from a copied LP, not an original, so Gibson copy a copied guitar from their LP design??? this is twisted.....

I bet they used scothbrite to give that top its shine.

Still not convinced by that signature.......

Re: Les Paul Slash VOS in excellent shape for exchange

These Slash signature guitars are remakes of the 2 Gibson gave him after Guns started to tour after releasing Appetite, and Slash realised he needed backup guitars, so they are just really what Gibson were making as an LP Standard back in 87. So that means 3 piece plain tops, short neck tenon and such. Slash would have had the Duncan Alnico II pups added and the neck shaved to his personal profile, but essentially an 87 Standard. He uses one in the Sweet Child video.

The replica was used in recording and touring, but was based on a 59, so has the 2 piece highly flamed amber top. It is a beautiful looking guitar, but not the basis for this signature issue.

Having said that, given that this LP Slash VOS has come from the Custom Shop it will be a great guitar, but yes, it is a little plain looking and will only really appeal to Slash fans. And the aged VOS model apparently relpicates the broken neck, among everything else. How do they manage to do that I wonder?

You want a LP Reissue/Historic in exchange for an LP Standard with a Slash COA?

Sorry I just don't see that happening.

Re: Les Paul Slash VOS in excellent shape for exchange

Thanks for your comments. But a few things I would like to clarify. First It is a really good-sounding instrument. I do not know if some of the people who commented earlier have actually had the chance to play one, I was skeptical too but I just decided to go for it and I was surprise, as it is more than a signature (I tried the Joe Perry and did not enjoy it very much, by comparison). Second, I agree that the look seems plain UNTIL you actually see a nice one (All Slash VOS are not great), it is stunning as there are some holographic looks that cannot be captured on a picture (I am not making this up, it happens to some real bursts' tops, read the "Million dollar Les Paul" or see a real one).
On overall it is about what you do with it and how it sounds in your hands. One tends to forget, in this era of consumerism, that most players have recorded amazing pieces of music, using pieces of shit instruments (actually it is the case for most musicians). I feel that this forum has some members who are cynical about everything. The thing that makes me laugh though is that most of these people (1) do not really play the guitar even though they cut down every guitar and guitar player and (2) are EXTREMELY influenceable: Give them any les paul, blind them and tell them it is a 1958 and they will say it sounds amazing...I am not saying it is not a normal behavior (we all are influenced by elements such as the name of the brand, the myth around a specific model and its famous players), but it has to be acknowledged. Of course, some other people in this website are extremely knowledgeable, but it is a minority (I dont consider myself as an expert, just somebody who really enjoys learning about instruments, open-minded to Gibson, Fender, other brands, violins,..). The rest of the members will usually rely on the price as the best indicator of quality (which is stupid, it may be true and it may completely false)...
Just a pacifist thought...

Re: Les Paul Slash VOS in excellent shape for exchange

Ive got one of these....
and i havent played an off the shelf historic that can compare, maybe I got lucky.
a bit of background

1-i could care less about owning a sig model, i dont play slash style music and Im so thankfull my it doesnt say slash on it anywhere except the case

2- Ive played probably close to 30 historical lp's in my day- R4's,5's,6's etc.

tho obviously the historics are wikid, ive never played one id swap for my current slash vos. honestly, a few tokais have come real close......but thats a whole new forum in iteself.

tho i due worry about the short tenon

dont bash these things, there absolutely wicked guitars for all styles

Re: Les Paul Slash VOS in excellent shape for exchange

just curious novice question,
is it customary for Gibson to produce only limited numbers (say 200, 300, etc) for a signature models? Would they produce more if they are all sold out..?

the CS Standard isn't limited. you can still get one - i believe you'll have to wait a while as the Gibson CS has to make it for each order. i have one and it's amazing.... and i could care less about signature models. the addition of the piezo makes it much more versatile than the average LP (although you have to be happy with no tone controls)

This Slash Sig is from the Custom Shop so it is built just like the Historics (long tenon, solid body, etc). By no means is the Slash VOS simply a Les Paul "Standard".

Agreed. Mine's sold sorry. I have to update my sig.

Already starting to save for another. This was an amazing guitar and now that we are through our little medical emergency I'm well on my way to getting another. Hopefully by the end of the year I'll have enough for Crusaders signed and aged lol.
