Yeah....but I did it to my Epiphone.....
![]() Now it weighs only 7 lbs....Every time I pick it up I feel like I'm playing on a Kirstie Alley after an extended weight watchers program... |

Re: Do You Have A " Zakk'd Out " Les Paul ?
I put a set of EMG's on my Epi SG (G-400.) You can say that I "Zakk'd it out," only the pickups I put in I've actually owned for many years, long before I ever heard of Zakk. When I saw his pickup set being sold, I thought, Hmmmm....That's MY setup, he stole it from me!!!

Re: Do You Have A " Zakk'd Out " Les Paul ?
I traded my autographed Gibson ZW because the neck was twisting and it was unplayable ...
![]() ... for a new black Custom. The chrome accoutrements are inspired by John Sykes, but the snarling active EMG81/85 pickups I installed "Zakk it out" nicely tone-wise. I've nicknamed it "The Impaler" (got to get that engraved on a truss rod cover in Olde English font):

Re: Do You Have A " Zakk'd Out " Les Paul ?
Sorry no pics... I had a '78 Custom w/ the Z.W. set.
Never played it much after my 1st Historic. Skinny neck... EMGs... traded it. I don't miss the skinny neck but I kinda miss the 81/85. I gave my son a LP copy (my 1st guitar) that I put a Z.W. set in.... I'm taking those pickups back! |

Re: Do You Have A " Zakk'd Out " Les Paul ?
Yes and no. Even though this LP Standard has the 81/85 combo, I've been doing this since 98. I went with EMG's after I played someones Fender Strat with a EMG 81 that just blew away the LP I had at the time. Ever since, I've had at least one guitar with this combo but I'm temped to swap the 85 with a 60...anyone got one to trade?

Re: Do You Have A " Zakk'd Out " Les Paul ?
You all should try the 85 in the bridge and the 81 in the neck. It sounds awesome. Much more fuller les paul sound. Sure the 81 screams in the bridge but I think it lends the guitar to better LP tones with the swap.
Give it a try and post what you think. RandyB. |

Re: Do You Have A " Zakk'd Out " Les Paul ?
I ve got few Zakk'd out guitars
play alot of oinch harmonics with overdrive/heavy metal pedal so the EMGs are great. Just bought a traditional (not shown) and it is one of the greatest guitars I have ever owned |

Re: Do You Have A " Zakk'd Out " Les Paul ?
I'd consider this more Hetfield than Wylde with an 81/60 combo, but here it is:

![]() And as far as the tunings, looks like the dude has enough guitars to cover the gig. Toss him one that has the tuning he needs per song. |

For me this is the coolest Zakk Wylde guitar, the one he uses in the pentatonic hardcore lessons :
