Are guitars of the week really limited to 400...

I mean 400 sound rare, but you can't pretty muck find any one of them all over the place. Some are more desireable than others, but if Gibson typically runs 401 of any given color, is it really limited edition? Not that it really matters, I'm just thinking outloud. I don't really buy guitars for an investment. Thats like buying a corvette and never driving it..

I've wondered too- Maybe someone will start a database at some point. I think it would have been nice if they were numbered like some of the older limited runs 1/400, 2/400 etc. That said, I love my LP and SG Classic Customs.

Re: Are guitars of the week really limited to 400...

i think the GOW is more of a marketing gimmick than anyhting else esp of collectability value.
They do seem better priced than the regular ones though. I had a chnace to buy week #14 new for $1700 as opposed to $2200 for a regular std in the same store.

I think it's research as well as a gimmick. They will definitely know when it's over which ones people are after. Those are the ones that will likely make it into production in the near future. Agreed on the price. I paid 1900 for the LP out the door. Compare that with a comparable Custom.

Re: Are guitars of the week really limited to 400...

I think so- Musicians friend just released the LP Custom Classic Creme on Tuesday. That was the week 39 guitar and the Tuesday before that they had the SG that was week 38. (my local shop got them about a week earlier) But check MF every Tuesday- if they have the silverburst V next Tuesday then I would guess the the JR would be the following Tuesday

Is this the Classic Creme of which you speak? It does not say GOTW anywhere in their ad, but man it looks nice. I love thin '60 style necks and only recently got two with '50's necks and like them too.

Buy Gibson Les Paul Classic Custom Electric Guitar in Antique White online

I want to get a 336 or 356 next, but these Les Pauls keep reeling me in!

Kinda hoping a GOTW would be an ES of some sort. Not gonna happen I guess. Solid bodies are quicker to make on the schedule Gibson have given themselves.
Here's the 336 I'm thinking of. a Kiefer Sutherland model:

Yup, that's the one. That's week 39. I got one locally last week (for about $600 less too)

I absolutely love it. With the ebony board and the triple binding it's very LP Custom like, but has the 60s neck. I did swap the gold knobs out for black ones, other than that it was a string change and good to go.

The KS is very nice. I’ve been thinking of one myself. I need some sort of 335ish ax.

Re: Are guitars of the week really limited to 400...

Cool ax! I like it with the black speed knobs, heck I just love it either way!

Sounds like you have a great dealer locally on price. I wonder what they would sell the KS for? If you get a chance, could you ask them?. Online it seems to go for 4K, but someone's gotta do better than that.
I'm going to ask my local dealer and also see if they could get GOTW #39 and at what price. Locally They sell the black LPCCustom for $2,500ish, so I'd expect the same or more from them on the GOTW#39.
Thanks for the reply. Enjoy your new tone machine!

I'll run it by them next time I'm there. If you're ever in western NY. House of Guitars in Rochester is a Must see, great deals and an insane inventory.

Re: Are guitars of the week really limited to 400...

I'm a dealer and I can tell you that the program is limited to only 400 guitars. That's really not a whole lot of guitars, when you think about how many Gibson sells wordwide. Will they become collectable? Most won't, but some will. Besides, they are generally very unique and great guitars that are built with a limited production cycle. It appears to me that the GOW guitars have been more consistent in quality.
