Distortion pedals and LP Studio

I have a TS9DX and like it a lot. I love the overdriven tone but I am looking for something to play with the lester that has a little more crunch to it. I have two questions,

What would you recommend?
Can it be played in conjunction with the TS9DFX?

Oh, I play classic rock and blues. I have the VMLPS and nothing special on amps. Just a Roland JC-77 and a Marshall MG250DFX. I would also want the distortion for recording direct.

Re: Distortion pedals and LP Studio

For the money the Digitech Grunge pedal is very good distortion. There's always the Boss DS-1. For a more sophisticated tone there are a lot of overdrive pedals in all price ranges for you to consider. But distortion certainly has its place.

Good luck.

Thanks everyone. I think this weekend I am going to my local GC to try out the GV-2. It's a Marshall and for the money I don't think I could go wrong. BTW - Can this be run in conjunction with my TS9DX or should I not use them at the same time?

Volusia I'd take my fav axe and my tube screamer and bounce em against an amp closest to what you own , if you put the drive near all the way back in the TS then the output over half it can be a mild gain but volume boost for solos

I used to use a Vox bulldog in my SS amp days... I'd highly recommend it... very versatile little number...

Have to agree about the Grunge pedal It sounds awesome with the BB Pro's on my LP. Also tried one of my son's Marshal pedals (JH1) and it was pretty good too. Gibsonblues...

Re: Distortion pedals and LP Studio

Howdy,
I occasionally use the DS-1 but not really too often. Mostly I will just use the od channel on the amp. However I usually just increase the gain on the clean channel for a crunchier sound. YMMV.

Have a great day-Tralf

OK, I just got back from GC. They had the GV-2 and the TS9DX on the same sample board. They were running through a Marshall MG100DFX so since I own the 250 this would be a good test.

I grabbed an VMLPS set the amp clean and all EQ flat. Plugged her in and WOW, what a great crunch from the Guv'nr. It sounded just as good at low volumes as it did at higher ones. I also ran both the TS9DX and the GV-2 at the same time. It does add quite a bit off umph to the tone but you do have to back off on the drive and level of the TS9DX. With a little more experimenting I am sure I can fibnd the sweet spot to run them botrh at the same time.

I will definitly be getting this pedal and would highly recommend it. At $69 it's a steal and it's a Marshall so it couldn't get much better than that.

Excellent ... I need to look at one of those You can certainly run two boxes but as you say, you'll need to experiment and see if you find a setting that you like... Good luck... Gibsonblues...
