I thought I would take some time away from the chambering topic and give some attention to sound and tone. I'm sure this has been discussed on here before but I would like also to hear some samples of Les Paul/Amp combos. Some people have posted some great examples of their sound and I thought it would be cool to hear them all.
If you have a sound clip or you tube video of the "tone" you get with your LP post it up. I'm trying to decide on a practice amp right now. For my main rig I use a Mesa Dual Rect 3 channel head with Bogner 4x12 ubercab. What do you guys use?

Re: What is your favorite amp???? Any sound clips???
For hard rock Mesa is always good. I find that 80s Marshall JCM 800s are also badass. Deizel is good but I've never heard one except when I saw Tool live, he also uses a Mesa too, I couldn't tell when he was using one amp or another was sitting too far away to really pay attention to the channel lights on the amps to guess which was being ran. Oh yeah, I also had a Soldano once that was very nice. The clean was sort of like a nice plexi sound and the gain was like a modded JCM 800. In fact Mike Soldano started out modifying Marshalls.

Re: What is your favorite amp???? Any sound clips???
I def dig the old school marshall tones. The only newer marshall amp i really liked was the first year the jcm2000's came out. But I have a vintage marshall cab with 4 original greenbacks from '72. It only handles 100watts so im looking for a cool 50watt head to go with it. I'm sure my custom will scream through and jcm800 with the vintage cab. I will post clips up when i have some of my custom.

Take a look over here for more sound clips of amps than you can shake a stick at...

Re: What is your favorite amp???? Any sound clips???
I can't say I've tried lots of amps, but one that stood out for me at the time was a Marshall 1974x 18-watt handwired re-issue. The tube tremolo was very sweet and the overall tone was
![]() It was at the Marshall stand at Music Live in 2005 and I plugged in a new Epi LP that my bandmate bought at the show (root beer finish, looks great). The amp sounded awsome and was so loud the dB police told us to turn it down. I may get one of these or build/buy an 18W clone one day. Cheers! |

Re: What is your favorite amp???? Any sound clips???
thats a toughy to answer. Everytime i walk into a music store or studio I fall in love with another amp
for my style most any fender tube amp will do and i do favor the late 70's music man 2-10 65's i wish i still had the one I bought new in 79. I tradded it for that big monster on the left back in 94. ouch |

Re: What is your favorite amp???? Any sound clips???
I love Marshalls!!
None of these are me..... but I really enjoy these clips: This ones a little on the bright side but basically has that great JCM 800 "Screaming For Vengeance" tone This one..... the sound quality is bad, but you can still tell the amp sounds GREAT!!! This ones pretty damn good: I also really like the Rob Math demo of the DSL 100. Only he talks for the first 5 minutes or so. But when he starts playing... its GREAT!!

Re: What is your favorite amp???? Any sound clips???
For that magic tone I use a Marshall TSL122. (There's plenty of Marshall demos here.)
For band practice w my drummer I've been using a Line6 Spider 212 (Solid state...lots of built in effects...but no magic tone. Still though, it doesn't bother me that it's being exposed to extreme temperatures even as we speak.) For "grab and go" and sit ins I've been using a Roland Cube 60 For sit-ins with acoustic players I've been using a Line6 Microspider. But for jamming at the house? I've been using a Roland Street Performer. I don't really need any wattage at the house, and this is a great little practice amp (and you can plug a microphone into it as well.) Cube Street Amp By Roland - Video And here's some clips of its little cousin, the Microcube... |

Re: What is your favorite amp???? Any sound clips???
My Hughes and Kettner Edition tube is my fave right now. Fendery cleans, Marshally crunch, and can IMO get really close to mesa high gain.
plus semi sealed back that makes it sound larger than it is, Two channels, and 20 watts of tube power! I don't have any clips but the ones on the website are pretty accurate. Check out the interactive demo: Guitar amps by Hughes & Kettner - Products

I like my Marshall JCM2000 TSL100 half stack, but want to try a Krankenstein and a Diezel. If I like one of those better then I'll make a trade.

Re: What is your favorite amp???? Any sound clips???
Been thinking about getting an
![]() Orange Tiny Terror Combo Guitar Amp I'm getting a boutique amp built this spring but this one does look very interesting, especially for a bedroom practice amp. I like the fact they you can drop it to 7 watts & still crank it out to get those tubes to bloom. |

Re: What is your favorite amp???? Any sound clips???
Wow this thread is back. Awesome clips guys. I ended getting a great deal on the Vox AD50 valvetronix 2x12 it's pretty comprable to the Roland cube although I do like how great that thing is in such a small combo!
I should've tried it before I got the vox. i'm pretty happy with the vox though I do a lot of direct recording with it. Here's song I did with the JCM 800 setting on vox: SoundClick artist: decoy205 - page with MP3 music downloads I sold my Mesa this year for 5150. It does the high gain thing that I dig and doesnt cost as much as a soldano or diezel. After I finish with my guitar gas i'm gonna go for something for my vintage cab. dunno what I want yet. so much to choose from. I def want a 50 watter though.

Re: What is your favorite amp???? Any sound clips???
I've been using Line-6 equipment for years and then came my first LP so, I got a used Marshall 8412 cab and the VS100 Head. Some of you may remember I had a problem with the head, turns out it had a couple of bad filter compacitors and a bad solder joint. Cheap, Quick fix and sounds Good but I'm saving for an all tube head. The JCM 800 seems to be the one I'm leaning towards, what do you guys think? The VS100 is sounding good for the time being though....

Re: What is your favorite amp???? Any sound clips???
Being a hobbyist, a head/cab setup isn't in my future anytime soon, so I'm limited to combos. I was such a Fender guy (still am when it comes to Strats), and thought I wanted a Fender tube amp, but just couldn't find one that fit the bill. I wanted a combo with a gret clean AND great gain channel. The Peavey Classic 30 was very, very close, but the one that beat it out was the Crate V3112. Yep, I said Crate. Completely amazing tube amp. They were selling these at GC/MF for a while as the Palomino V32, if that helps.
Class A, 3 preamp, 4 power tubes, and it does all I could ask for. Very Marshall-esque sounds. I hope it lasts forever. I'd hate to lose it. ![]() Opened up:
