Found my static ground problem

Hey,

2012 LP Standard and I found this is what is causing my static pop and crackle when I touch metal on the guitar.

Notice the shield wire is not connected to the plastic male connector from the neck pick up.

How should I fix this?

Send it back to Gibson or fix myself?

Rock On!

Tom

if you do it yourself, you will void the warranty.

Isn't that a solderless connector?
Shove the wire in there, voila.
(You may have to pop the connector open)

It is a plastic connector not solder. However, I think the wire was to short is why it pulled out or was not ever connected.

Does anyone know if the pickups have this type connecter. If so maybe I can get the store to swap one out.

Otherwise, I guess I will have to contact Gibson.

Rock On!

I have a 2012 too, so I looked in my guitars cavity and being someone that used to service TVs etc that is pretty easy to fix, but yup warrenty.. you gotta make the choice yourself, but _IF_ you decide to fix it, drop a towel around the cavity (like medical surgery) disconnect the white plug from the board; release the pin catch from the plug (this is tricky if you don't know how) remove the pin and then and ONLY then use a soldering iron to re-attach the black wire to the pin, then pop the pin and wire back in and reconnect to the board. You will also need very stead hands and pretty good eye sight to manage this job.

I don't recommend it that's up to you, but if you do decide to do it, do it that way and not dive in with an iron while everything is connected etc, that would be a disaster.

Those PicoBlade connectors are tiny! I know, I've replaced my pickups and had to deal with those connectors. You can't just push in the wire and be good. The wire will need to be either soldered to the existing terminal or get a new terminal and crimp it. I would have it fixed under warranty. If you could fix it it would have already been done.
