What is this Les Paul Custom Worth Today?
Just trying to get an idea of what my 1984 Les Paul Custom is worth. I am ready to sell her. She is Rare Pearl White, in great condition and all original including Tim Shaw PAFs.
What should I be looking for? ![]() Thanks! ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: What is this Les Paul Custom Worth Today?
Axe is carzy. Just look at his avatar.
It's worth $50. Tops. But, because I like you, I will take it off your hands for $1,000. ![]() Seriously, though, I think AXE is correct. If I were selling it, I'd put it on eBay with a starting bid of $100, and a reserve of $4,000 (eat the listing fees). At the end of the auction, you will know what it's worth on the open market. If the bidding actually hits $4,000, you made out well. I think you can beat $3,000, if you wait. Someone who wants a guitar like yours wants YOUR guitar. There are not a bunch of those to choose from at any one time in the world. |

I think you could get 3K for that beauty based on condition if you're not in a hurry! (At least up here in Canada!) Of course I'm assuming she comes with the OHSC as well?

Re: What is this Les Paul Custom Worth Today?
She's a beauty and I've been watching them on eBay thinking an old white custom might be my next purchase. I hope you can get $3k for her, but you'll have to be very patient, very lucky, and the stars will need to be in alignment. I have not been following your year model specifically, but old white customs are being unsold with asking price of $2500 on a regular basis.
Why are you selling her? I see others on your list that "seem" less attractive than this one. Last edited by 02589; 07-25-2012 at 09:22 PM. Reason: changed "it" to "her" |

Re: What is this Les Paul Custom Worth Today?
I am in a bit of flux with my gear. Since joining a working band I have decided that fat round necks are my thing. They just allow me to dig in better and I have big hands with long fingers. So... I have sold my 89' 3 pup BB and my 09' White Custom. This 84 Pearl was the hardest one to sell because it is truly a SICK and rare Custom but it has the thinnest neck of the bunch. I will just keep it if I can't get a fair price. I have a 76' White / Black Custom with a fat round (50's) neck (unusual for a Norlin to have a fat neck) and that is my main axe. I even sold my 1960 Custom Shop Strat and now looking for a 56' Strat.

Re: What is this Les Paul Custom Worth Today?
That's one sweet looking custom!
One thing you've got going for you is that guys who want a white custom usually REALLY want a WHITE custom, and there aren't too many of 'em out there. Still, to get 3000 bucks without waiting for months you'd probably have to get a little lucky. Hell, if I had the cash I'd be interested!

Re: What is this Les Paul Custom Worth Today?
Why are you thinking the weight is funny? If it weighs 13+ lbs it probably wouldn't be worth as much that weighs 10 lbs.

Re: What is this Les Paul Custom Worth Today?
Sure it will.
I was just having this discussion about "how much does it weigh & how does it sound?" Struck me funny at the time. |

Re: What is this Les Paul Custom Worth Today?
Of course I'm not talking weight vs sound. I'm talking about weight vs how much someone would prefer a lighter guitar or not.

Re: What is this Les Paul Custom Worth Today?
That's a great weight. Should open the doors for anyone looking for that style/year Les Paul.

Re: What is this Les Paul Custom Worth Today?
Here's a question about guitar values....
The growing consensus is that this guitar is worth $2,500-$3,000.... The tough part of the sale is not being able to play it. If I saw this for $2,500 in the Member Classifieds, I'd think it was a good deal, but not actually take interest in it. If I saw it for $2,500 on Craigslist, I wouldn't call the guy to try it out, but I'd think it's a good deal for whoever gets it. If I walked into a local guitar shop, and this was hanging on the wall for $2,500 out-the-door.... I'd buy it. I'd buy it and love it, and if I ever stopped loving it, I'd be pretty darn confident I could sell it for $2,500 or more. My question for everyone is, does the "value" fluctuate in your minds, depening on whether you can hold the guitar? Though I know there are a lot of people who wouldn't buy a guitar they can't play first. |

Re: What is this Les Paul Custom Worth Today?
No: The guitar is worth exactly the same whether in a retail shop, eBay, craigslist or your next door neighbors garage sale. The only difference is locally you will not pay shipping, you'll pay sales tax though and you'll get to try before you buy. I know a lot of people just HAVE to play a guitar first. I have bought many guitars that I never touched until I took em out of the case.
