Re: Who are you as a Gibson guitar player?

I can see it in lights!! "NOW PLAYING,IN THE DROZDIK SPARE BEDROOM, DANNO TRYING TO MEMORIZE ALL THE POSITIONS OF THE HARMONIC MINOR SCALE!!"
I really just want to have that instinctive musical relationship with some good musicians.I was in Key west about five years ago and saw this fantastic blues band. These guys packed the place. What impressed me about them is how tight they were.It was obvious to me that these guys played twice a week and practiced regularly for years. If they didn't have that gig, they would be creating new stuff in someones basement.

Re: Who are you as a Gibson guitar player?

I have been playing live for more years than I want to count anymore.

Here is a link to my current original project. These songs were recorded with my 54 reissue and a mesa Mark IV mostly on Channel 2

Re: Who are you as a Gibson guitar player?

I'm a professional hobbyist - or at least that's my intention. My band will play shows locally and put up stuff on the internets for the rest of the world to hear, but getting signed/touring is off the agenda. Tried it once and am no longer interested.

Re: Who are you as a Gibson guitar player?

I got mine when I was still an aspiring professional.
But for the deal I got on it, I still would have got it if I was only a hobbyist

Re: Who are you as a Gibson guitar player?

Im a guy that gets to do his hobby for a livin

I've been playing since about 1977 ,when I was in high school
I did not get my 1st Les Paul til 1984 ,my 21st birthday present to myself. A '71 Deluxe that had been "Scholz'd"
I buy the ones other people wont .....even before I knew all the repair/luthier stuff. Maybe that's part of how I learned
I think in those 35 years I owned maybe two brand new Gibsons
I started life as a full time touring musician in 1995, so since then I've been able to justify guitar purchases in my mind as tools o the trade.
Gibsons need not be that expensive ,in the USA anyway
Just gotta shop around

Re: Who are you as a Gibson guitar player?

I've played for 25 years, in and out of some established local bar acts that had their moments (one of them even had a Top 5 single in the charts! Like...wow!).

I love playing, but the whole industry/scam side of the business put me off.

I play because it brings me inner peace. And I am a fool with too much time on my hands and some money to spend.

I'm a hard working hobbyist, plumber by day, guitarist all other times. I play as many gigs as possible but not enough at the moment. If I had the opportunity to go pro I would in a second.

Re: Who are you as a Gibson guitar player?

'Who are you as a Gibson guitar player?'
Interesting question.

I bought my first Gibson when I was 17, back in 1980 when I was aspiring to be a 'Guitar Hero' in a chart topping rock band. LOL
Only cost me $680 back then for a '67 SG Standard.

Played in a few good original bands and a couple of cover bands also.

...and then life happened. Got a job, (still aspired to rock) but, found a girl, got hitched, had kids, etc,etc....
Ended up more of a hobbyist playing for my pleasure and the occasional $$$$.
I'm 48 and I've still got the bug to turn up the volume on my guitars and Marshall sooo...... I just joined a cover band last week.

Hopeless case I reckon.

Re: Who are you as a Gibson guitar player?

I played my first gig for money at the age of 14. From then to about age 30 I supported myself by playing guitar or bass (occasionally piano/organ) in bands. Never made much money and often worked in music stores or taught to keep going. In those days I usually played a Tele with P90s - a good, tough, affordable guitar. In later years I have played for fun with various groups and solo - got a gig next Saturday in fact - but I would call myself a hobbyist now. I can afford LPs now and have 4, plus 2 I am building (thanks to Luthiers Corner). I know quite a few people like myself - we never made a lot of money, but we were good playersand we played a hell of a lot of good music...

Guess some of us are just filthy rich - as well as talented, and far too selfish to be bothered with punters hero worship.......................

In my opinion, that's how it is. The best players are usually not known and might have a day job. I like the blues and other adult music, and that does not really have a market, so that's how it goes. There are some wicked, wicked players out there.
