late NGD...who needs a neck pickup??!?
well Ive had some setbacks recently but there was a nice silver lining to my cloud.
i had a pal who owed me pitch in in a big way. i tried a couple of Gretsch guitars and i am offically not a Gretsch guy...they didnt work for me. So I picked up a new Junior.now eventually I will be over run with juniors but for now its a great lil axe til i can get my Jr project fully built and playable. Obeche board was very lack luster to the touch at first BUT IT CAN BE FIXED. (taken from another post of mine) its rough and gritty and feels like astronaut icecream. its unpleasant as it comes...but it can be fixed. took a razor and "lightly" smoothed all the textured feeling off the board...this took care of that uneven feel it had...now to address the grit feel and dry brittle nature of it. i hit her twice with some lemon oil. now shes smooth and slick to the touch. very nice turn around. still to the eye shes no rosewood but with a lil TLC out of the box its not a bad board. the electronics are decent on this one. pots are responsive. p90 isnt quite my kind of P90 so it will have my tried and true Seymour Duncan SP90-2N in it in a couple of days. im also going to swap the cap to a Vitamin Q Im thinkin. i added pointers and its getting a blank TRC soon. Its light, got a great neck. Im stunned that they are cheaper in gloss than they are in the faded but im not bitchin. the plastic tipped sealed tuners are a great step up vs the inline open backs. a lil nut lube and it holds tune like a dream and intonates perfect. had to do a full setup and neck adjustment to get it there but shes a real killer. throw that on top of the new Vox AC15C1 that i funded with the sale of my tweaker and im in heaven. this was a nice bounce back from where i was and im happy with it. been playing a lot more low gain music with this setup and focusing on technique for once. anyway this is what you want...the pics ![]() ![]() and the prior posted pics with the 59 ![]()

Re: late NGD...who needs a neck pickup??!?
Thanks bro. It's an Edwards model that they don't make any more. I've seen the cherry and yellow a lot, but the white was hard to find.

Man, how do you like the Vox? I'm playing a '95 Green board Blues Jr, sounds pretty sweet, but a friend I work with says he loves his Vox.

Re: late NGD...who needs a neck pickup??!?
BJs are shrill to me and i dont feel they have enough room in that lil box to breathe. Some people love em i just feel theyre icepicky. Vox is great at any volume has a real nice overdrive...master volume is key! Reverb is less intense so if you play in saturated reverb the vox may not be the answer. As far as a 15w solution goes the vox wins hands down in my opinion. Do the basic bright cap mod to get better response out of pedals especially ones that add volume no matter what and youre golden. I have seen some pretty big misses from vox but the C1 really seems to hit the spot perfect.

With mine being a "copy", I'm still a little skidish of buying the PG, scared I'll spend $60 and it "might" not fit.

Re: late NGD...who needs a neck pickup??!?
if you don't mind the possibility of maybe having to maybe drill new holes go for the retrospec
finding a 3/4 ply tortoise guard is easy though but the vintage correct 1 ply is few & far between unless you make your own. |

Re: late NGD...who needs a neck pickup??!?
![]() I have to admit that, while I can make a P-90-bridge-only guitar do whatever I want it to, when I'm gigging (which is spelled "n e r v o u s"), I find having three presets available at the flip of a toggle switch extremely helpful. When I grow up, though...

Nah, I don't mind. The other holes would be covered up anyway..

Re: late NGD...who needs a neck pickup??!?
ymmv but i find the Deluxes even ice pickier and the gain stage SUUUUUUUUCKS on it. 40w is a lot of headroom to clear to get break up too so at decent volumes you HAVE to rely on pedals. I traded my Blues Deluxe like a week into having it because i found it useless. put it head to head vs a Vox and i think youll dig the Vox more. if you MUST go Fender at te price range of a HR/Blues Deluxe you should get into a PRRI or something of the sort or find a nice Blackface Bassman or even a silverface Pro Reverb

Re: late NGD...who needs a neck pickup??!?
One of these days we'll give the Freddy Gs and other recording engineers their due and realize that THEY make that magic. Some guitar with some set of pickups does not.
