NGD..$500 worth of P-90 Goodness.....

Used 2010 Gibson LP Jr./Special w Gibson HSC. I think these were GC only, has a belly cut, a little bit thinner body than than a Jr., Nickle Tone Pros locking studs and aluminum tailpiece, Gotoh ABR-1. A light, good sounding and good playing guitar, for short $

axepilot, Dano, Leumas and 13 others like this.

I really like those. They are selling those again this year. The gloss yellow is very cool too.

What a beauty! "Budget" models with neck binding always look so cool.

Re: NGD..$500 worth of P-90 Goodness.....

Wow! You got a deal on that guitar! I picked up a 2011 model for $650 3 days ago without case, and I thought I got a great deal. Mines the same color with the belly cut, weighs a little over 7 lbs. Great sounding and playing guitar!

Do you by any chance know what the differences are between this guitar and the Junior Special P-90, besides the belly cut and the darker cherry color?

I think the body thickness is different (mine is slightly thinner), and mine has what I believe to be a very dark rosewood fretboard, newer ones have an obeche, or baked maple board, and I've played a few new Jr.'s with richlite boards. Another difference is no neck binding and white button style Klusons

I'd like to clarify the $500 price, actually paid $540 + tax w/ Gibson gear LP HSC
rounded to $500 for effect. The Tone Pros parts and bridge were in my parts box, and I added them. It's my Gibson Tele : ). I also have an R6 Gold Top and this one sounds a little more" alive "to me.

Still a great price!

Actually, the L.P. Jr. Special does have neck binding and tulip tuner buttons. Also says "Special" on the TRC. This is the one I'm talking about - with gloss finish $799 at G.C.: Gibson Les Paul Junior Special Electric Guitar with P-90 Pickups | GuitarCenter

Your guitar and mine - L.P. Special P-90 (with the belly cut) is $200 more new: Gibson Les Paul Special Electric Guitar with P-90 Pickups | GuitarCenter

I guess I'd just like to know what makes the Special cost $200 more than the Jr. Special...

Different FB material, looks like the JR special has a thinner nitro finish, and the Jr doesn't say anything about a gig bag.

Is that 200 worth of difference tho??? IDK.

Also, like you said the belly (fender type) cut. The other thing that might differ is body thickness?

My Jr. Special came with the craptacular Gibson gig bag. Bound baked maple board. I can measure the body thickness if anybody wants to know.

The belly cut probably costs some finishing time. I don't know if there's a difference in the finish thickness. I got gloss heritage cherry, I like to see the grain.

Appears to be 1 piece body??

$725 delivered from Sweetwater. I thought that was pretty reasonable (Hell, I bought it).

My Jr Special is 1 3/4" thick at the strap pin.

Cuz I had the tape out already:

Trad + is 2"
Double Cut Junior is 1 3/4"
Melody Maker is 1 1/2"

I'm pretty sure those were just Les Paul Specials, not Junior/Specials. I have one, too. They were GC exclusives, bound fretboards.

Thanks Clump. My 2011 Special w/belly cut is 1-11/16" at the bottom strap pin.

blsplyr: I think you actually have the more expensive L.P. Special instead of the Jr. Special. The Jr. Special does not have the belly cut. FWIW.

Re: NGD..$500 worth of P-90 Goodness.....

They apparently make a couple different models. Mine has an Ebony board with no binding nor tummy cut. It was $1,299 and is now like $949!!! (I got 15% off from MF) One hell of a deal. The other one was list for $999 and had an obeche board with binding. I can't even keep track anymore!!! LOL All are just incredible guitars for the $$$!!!
