Nashville uses from 0301 and up. That means 0675 is the 375th guitar built in Nashville that day (probably one of the last of that day). |

Re: gibson serial number
Hi guys please help me with this one. I have a Gibson Les Paul Black Beauty purchased used in 1976. The serial # is 00120780 and is imprinted on the back of the headstock, along with LES PAUL CUSTOM and Made in USA. I know it could not have been made in 2000 as it was purchased before then. Any ideas?

Re: gibson serial number
muz59, that 1 means it's the 700th. So, 700 + 54 = ?
People, go to Gibson.com and search for "serial number." It explains everything. There's even a link to it in the Gibson Les Paul 101 thread. Gibson serial numbers are not rocket science.

Re: gibson serial number
Already been to the Gibson site. No info on this one. Could be a freak (it was actually played by an icon) thats why I came here thinking someone knew something I didn't, as I've been into solid Gibsons for a long time.

Re: gibson serial number
'75-'77 had their own bastarized serial number setup. They had a 2 digit prefix followed by a 6 digit number. 8 digits total.
99 prefix = '75 00 prefix = '76 06 prefix = '77 00120780 could also indicate a 2000 model, but since you said you bought it in '76, 2000 is impossible. Also, it saying Les Paul Custom on the back of neck tells it's from the 70's. Bet it has a 3 piece neck too. |

Re: gibson serial number
Your right, it does have a 3 piece neck. So it is a '76, cool, thanks man. Its funny, I could not find that info on the Gibson site, for some reason they seem to have ommited that info. Par for the course I guess.

Re: gibson serial number
I got the info from Gruhn's Guide to Vintage Guitars. If there's one man that knows vintage guitars, especially Gibson and Gretsch, it's George Gruhn.
BTW- Gibson's site sucks for serial number info. |

Re: gibson serial number
Hello,
I have a strange serial number 055147 487 (yes, a space) It seems like it would be a 1973 Deluxe, but even Gibson's Serial PDF does not show this number set. Any ideas? I sadly need to sell her along with her friends... Thank you. |

Re: gibson serial number
Hey everyone, can anyone tell me how to read the serial number on my Les Paul? It is 128479 (the 9 might be a zero, I don't have the guitar with me right now so I can't remember if the last number is a 9 or 0). I'm pretty sure it is a 1970-72 Les Paul Custom nicknamed the "Black Beauty" or "Fretless Wonder" and it is in excellent condition (everything is original on it - no modifications at all)... my dad bought it new when he was 17 and then my uncle bought it from my dad and kept it in the case in his house for years and years (never played it or got it out of the case even) until he finally gave it back to my dad a few years ago and I just bought it from my dad so he could have the cash to invest in his music store. I"m just trying to do a little research to educate myself about the instrument and I've come to realize the Gibson serial numbers are pretty confusing because they have changed and I've been told there have been mistakes with the serial numbers and all sorts of things. Thanks for the help!!!

Re: gibson serial number
Hi
I have option to buy a Les Paul but from the description I have had and the pictures I have seen I think it is a copy. It’s a sunburst red/orange with a little tiger stripe in the wood grain. The Gibson logo is painted in gold rather than inlaid (like a I genuine Classic I have but its in the same font) and the serial number is stamped on the back of the head rather than printed on and it also has “MADE IN USA” stamped on it. The logo in the centre of the head says “Les Paul” in script then in small block capitals it says “MODEL” The serial number is hard to read but it looks to be 80608330 It looks to be brand new, can you tell me if this is a genuine Les Paul or a copy of some kind? My Classic has the logo in the centre of the head “Les Paul” in script then in small block capitals it says “CLASSIC” I would also be interested if you can give me any information on my Classic which has the serial number 012849 printed on but has no “MADE IN USA” Thanks in advance |

Re: gibson serial number
Wondering if someone out there can help me find out the year my Les Paul custom was made. I am pretty sure (from what I could find online) it is somewhere in the late 60's early 70's. Serial number is 901726 also has the "Made in USA" under it and I don't believe it is stamped. I am attaching a few pictures in case that helps. Thanks.IMG00263.jpg
