Quick Inlay Question

Hi ! I bought the Gibson Les Paul Classic Custom yesterday and I really like everything about it ! However today I noticed what I did not notice yesterday in the store. There is a tiny line running along one of the inlays on the fretboard... I don't think it should be anything serious (hope it is not) but would like a confirmation/advice from people who are more experienced.

...NEW PHOTO...

Thanks in advance !

Re: Quick Inlay Question

I can see a very faint line there. No idea whether it's just a pattern in the mother of toilet seat inlay or even a hair in the way. Try to get the camera to focus on your guitar. Either way, I don't imagine there will be a problem. Absolute worst case scenario is it needing a replacement inlay some years down the line. From what I've read, it's a fairly easy job for a competent guy. I'm sure luthiers the world over got to practice inlay removal thanks to the snot green inlays Gibson tarnished the wonderful "classic" series with.

Re: Quick Inlay Question

Not to worry. Classic Customs don't have quality inlays and if it ever bothered you enough to have it changed, it should be dirt cheap.

By the time it needs to be changed, you might want to check into real Mother of Pearl.

Pretty much this. I played a few CC in a store recently and noticed how terrible the inlays were. Wouldn't put me off buying one though. This isn't much of an issue really, and I doubt it's cause for concern.

If it becomes an issue in the future, buy a replacement set from stew mac. Reasonably priced and good quality.

Re: Quick Inlay Question

Hope it won't become an issue) I think I am also gonna ask people in the CC Club if they had the same issue. Thanks for help)

Re: Quick Inlay Question

Yeah, don't worry over it. It can be changed and certainly doesn't affect the playability of your CC in any way.

Changing your inlays is more effort and money than it's worth.

The guitar of he`s, which was the last CC in the store, is a brand new, (couple of days only),It should be solved by warranty !

issues : crack in the block inlay and also fretbuzzes on the 3 lowest strings (sloppy setup/bad nut/needs truss-rod adjustment?)

Re: Quick Inlay Question

OK I can see you new picture now....it looks like a cracked inlay and they put it on that way. It will be fine if the look of it doesnt bother you. If it does just take it back ans get a different one.

Re: Quick Inlay Question

Could be a crack, but more likely it is a scratch

Re: Quick Inlay Question

Have you tried to feel it with your finger nail? If it's a scratch you should be able to clean it out and you shouldn't be able to see it until it gets dirty again. It looks more like a crack though since it is so dark.

If it bugs you then you can always take it back to where you got it and get another one. If you like everything else about the guitar then you could contact Gibson and file a warranty claim.
