R what?
Hi there, maybe this has been answered before but what's the difference between the different R models? Also, all those models, besides their physical differences have different price ranges?
Thanks! Arturo |

Re: R what?
The differences are all related more or less to the differences between the different production years of the original LPs. The following is a general list only of the more well known R models
So R4 has P90s and wrap around tailpiece R6 has ABR and P90s R7 has ABR and Humbuckers R8 is the 1st year of the burst finish R9 is the better selection on tops and slightly reduced neck profile R0 is an R9 with an even slimmer neck profile. Prices are based more or less on flame so plain bursts (R0 & R8) and goldtops cost about the same. Highly figured bursts run considerably higher. Interestingly, the fretwire is the same on all RIs but 59 was the year that Gibson went from small fretwire to larger fretwire. Maybe Gibson thought the original smal fretwire would not be well received?

Re: R what?
R stand for reissue. the number stands for a year in the 50s or the year 1960. For example, R9 is the 1959 Les Paul Reissue. R8 would be 1958. R0 is the 1960.
