Re: CL deal or steal?
exactly what I was thinking. Plus, even if its legit, it's pretty damn near impossible to authenticate that slash owned it. Anyone can post a goldtop with duncans and claim slash owned it, but without the serial number authenticated by slash, who's to know. |

Re: CL deal or steal?
My question is why would slash give away his custom shop prototype? Its not like he's in need of money or anything?

Re: CL deal or steal?
It smells bad bad bad! Remember this old saying, when it's too good to be true it probably is? Well, it's not even too good to be true, it's just f*cked up. The guy posts an ad at 10h39 and then another one similar with some changes and less pics at 10h48?
It doesn't make any sense. A guy who would know Slash would know how to sell such a guitar (Slash owned). I mean, when you have something like this, you don't advertise on CL! You go through a known reputable dealer. Fretted Americana or some shop like that. In the 10h39 ad he mentions: "Mahogany Body with Maple Top (yes this DOES count. It was custom made)". Is he retarded? I wouldn't send this guy any money. If I couldn't get my hands on it first, no go! and I would not pay a premium for the Slash bull unless there was serious proof. |

Re: CL deal or steal?
here's the thing about CL. All of it is bullshit. You'd have to be retarded to gamble your money on any kind of bullshit guitars you find on CL or Kijiji. Even ebay is sketchy for me.

Re: CL deal or steal?
Oh, and as for this ad, you know, I'd probably go check it out with my little amp and a friend of mine in a public place. I know how to spot a genuine Gibson goldtop, and if it was real, it sounded good, and it was at a fair price, I'd probably go for it.
The story's probably BS, but the condition, authenticity, and price would all be known factors. Then I'd have a sweet guitar and a story to go along with it: "you know the dude who sold this to me said, . . . " ![]() Peace Rex |

Re: CL deal or steal?
Not saying this guy isn't full of it, but I never had anything but a great experience buying and selling in Craigslist. With the exception of people being late all the time, all my transactions went smoothly.

Re: CL deal or steal?
Guitar and story are 100% legit. Slash was telling me about this guy when he gave me my LP. Mines a prototype from Gibson that's why it doesn't say Gibson (had to keep it on the DL you know being a prototype), and the ultra rare bolt on neck was so they could switch out different necks for him to try. I took pictures of Slash playing it and giving it to me but that was with my camera phone and when I upgraded my phone they didn't transfer the pics but you can trust me. Only $3700 firm. I'll even throw in the custom fitted cardboard box for it.

Re: CL deal or steal?
More than likely he just posted some photos of slash and a shot from Slash's studio and will just mug whoever is stupid enough to show up to meet him.

Re: CL deal or steal?
I have bought many guitars, basses, and amps through Clist without issue. You have to be intelligent about it. Walked away from a few "deals" but you have to realize that Clist is a great way for people to unload broken stuff as well as unloading the good stuff. It is up to you to be an informed buyer.
