Is it impossible to play this solo on a Les Paul?

Eddie Van Halen's Ice Cream man solo. I'm awfully good at learning most of his solos, but this one seems to be a pain.

I just barely started trying to disect it, but I only own les pauls and the finger stretch is insane. Don't really care about the dive bombs.

Anyone else capable of playing this on their les paul and still making it sound good?

It is possible to play anything made for a guitar on a les paul.
That said, that was ear splitting.

Re: Is it impossible to play this solo on a Les Paul?

The scale on the LP is likely a little bit shorter than the Kramer EVH was using at that time. The "stretch" is therefore likely to be a little less on the LP....

Thx. I wasn't sure if eddie was pulling it off because maybe the scale was shorter on the kramer. It really was that I just needed to practice it a bit. I'm starting to get a hang of it now though.

Ed wasn't using anything Kramer at that time - there was supposedly much of that record played on an Ibanez Destroyer.

Scale was strat style on the frankie.....I'm not sure about the destroyer but if the solo had whammy then it wasn't the destroyer. Didn't he effectively destroy that guitar long before Ice Cream man was recorded?

either way, the LP scale will be shorter than what he played the original on.

I played it on my paul 30 years ago. Basically did that whole first album on my LP.
