People saying send it back. but the way I'm reading this is that you bought it in person and even inspected it before buying it? If so, how did you miss that - stings or no strings? If it bugs you return it, but I think its kinda hard to complain about something that obvious that you inspected in person before buying.

Re: Unhappy NGD......

Rosewood dust and thin CA glue will fix it, epoxy is a PITA to work with in places like this.Too thick.

If I read your last post correctly she offered you the Gibson for $100? If so you better scarf it up QUICK! I'd buy it and play the hell out of it for $100.

Heck yeah. You cant find a decent Epi Studio for that. The pickups and electronics alone would be worth it.

Dude, you have to look at both sides of a guitar before you buy it.

Say what?
The guitar is an Epi and he (they) used the $500 he just spent on the POS he took home the 1st time. So, it cost him $500 for the new guitar but for a primo condition Ultra that was a good deal.

Re: Unhappy NGD......

Well for $100 take her up on it.
The fretboard does not need to be replaced you should not have lied to her.
If you don't know what it will take to fix it best not to even say things like that.

Re: Unhappy NGD......

congrats, noce score--and $100.00 for the Gibson?? Hmmmm--I'd consult a luthier/repair shop first, get an estimate, etc--but nonetheless, the Epi looks SWEET!!

Re: Unhappy NGD......

Were any of the defects listed in the description of the guitar? That's not a nick in the fretboard, an entire chunck has been taken out. If it were me, that guitar would go back so fast, that heads would spin!

Re: Unhappy NGD......

I don't know how this transaction went down but if you got to inspect it in person, and "missed" the defects, I'd say you're stuck with it. Don't know how this was not visible unless the pics you relied on to purchase the guitar were equivalent regarding clarity to the one's you put up here for us.

I'm just baffled as to how you didn't see the fretboard damage before purchasing? Again, this is not a little tiny ding or nick that we're talking about, an entire piece of the fretboard is missing. Something's fishy about this story IMO.

Re: Unhappy NGD......

$100.00 ?!??!?
Don't even spend a minute thinking about it. Buy it!
The pickups alone are worth more than that.
The 99's are good featured. You can build on it.
And the advices you got here about how to repair it make full sense.
Lucky in the end.

Re: Unhappy NGD......

I'm with Pinkie and River Side, although I don't think I'd use JB Weld?

And I'm not sure if Anchorage is the hotbed of luthiers, but I'll bet that's a $20 fix at most, cheaper if you know how to do it yourself? Take the Gibson and google wood filling!

Re: Unhappy NGD......

A little work and the Gibby will be fine.
You guys go ape over things like that it astounds me.
You guys afraid to work on them?
Here you go tape the side of the neck use the non sticky side of the tape in that area.File some rosewood off a junk neck you have laying around if you have one.
File enough to fill the divot then drop a bit of thin CA glue.Spray some activator on to harden it, won't take a second or two to harden. If you need more rosewood add it and repeat the process.
I usually add enough rosewood dust so its a little over in height when the glue dries.
Take a razor blade and at a 90% angle scrape the fretboard until its level.
Take the tape off and scrape the side and you will be all done.Bet you wont even see the divot when you are done.Easy Peasy.

My free tip of the week.

Re: Unhappy NGD......

Im usually not the type to call people out but... dude COME ON MAN.. I hope you don't do any work that requires attention to detail for a living. First it amazes me you didn't inspect the guitar before you bought it. I guess live and learn the hard way. Then ya take back and she knocks off 80% off the original price!! LOL. And you buy a new guitar for $500! She might not have offered the $100 for the Gibson if you didnt buy the Epi but I would have tried to get the Gibson for $100 and spend the remaining $400 on mods and repairs. This is almost a clear cut case of the buyer AND the seller NOT knowing what the heck they are doing lol. But great job you gotta good deal. And surely you didn't pass on getting the Gibby for $100. Please tell me you at least took that deal??
