Talking Gold p90 covers

I saw these gold p90 covers online Gibson P90 Cover Metal Gold

I'm thinking about changing the pickup covers on my white 60s tribute.Would it change the sound on the guitar and will they fit?

Re: Gold p90 covers

On the bottom of that page it says "Gibson Factory Leftover".
I'm not aware of any P90 model that had gold covers but i'm by no means an expert. As to if they'll change your sound, i don't thinks so. If you can connect them to the ground then it may reduce noise somewhat. People will suggest that you may lose some high end due to extra capacitance introduced by the covers but i don't think thats the case.
Are you just changing the covers or are you going to change all the hardware to gold?

I just got a set from Ebay, pretty sure its the same guy. They haven't arrived yet so I can't say how they sound but I'll post the results when they come in. I would love to post pics but for some reason it doesn't take and I'm a techno boob so no pics so far.

Re: Gold p90 covers

For those new to P-90s such as the ones on the 60s tribute model, there are a lot of "aftermarket" covers that don't fit. A lot of the plastic covers will need a grinder on the inside and outside to fit in the Les Paul.

You'll never know if these particular metal ones will work in your 60s Tribute or not until you try them. Also, the ad does not say THESE COVERS CAME FROM GIBSON. It says "checkout under Hardware/Specials Gibson Factory Leftover deals". While that might imply one thing or the other, there is a lot of wiggle room in that statement.

I hope they work great right out of the box. Just don't be surprised if you run in to issues.

If the box has genuine Gibson packaging, your chances are MUCH better of a nice fit.

Re: Gold p90 covers

As far as I know my gold/metal covers were from Germany and are not made by Gibson. The ones I got were from "Crazy Parts" and they fit perfectly with no modifications at all. I love them and as far as I can tell the sound hasn't changed to my ear. But the look is spectacular, I have always hated the look of those plastic soapbar 90's with a passion and not sure why but these covers make the whole thing look completely different and really special, now I love the look more then I can say. I also got a gold mirror pick guard that is amazing and goes with the covers like pea's and carot's. I am getting a gold/metal toggle switch cover that has Rhythm/Lead etched or engraved in the metal. Someday I would love to find a way to change the vintage tuner buttons from that weird kind of green to butterscotch pearl buttons but no time soon. Here are a couple of pics of the LaBeast and her name is Lucy, Lucy Loob, no just kidding just Lucy O Ball or Lucy Plain and Tall, no just kidding again, just plain Lucy.

In answer to your Question,I've changed to chrome metal covers from plastic before and it did'nt change the sound a bit.Ive also got an ES-330 that has Metal dog ears on it from the factory in 64 and I changed em out to gold and never had a problem.
