Thumbs up That new Guitar smell

Since there are so many threads about new Gibby's here lately I have to ask:

Anyone else notice that freshly buffed lacquer smell emanating from your case when you first open it? I opened my CC upon arrival and the next thing I know the Mrs is sniffing the air She thought it smelled a little like white chocolate.

So, since this is my the first guitar I've had in a LONG time that i'll need to polish once in a while, have any of you found a polish that will shine up the finish and help keep that new guitar smell?

That smell will eventually fade, regardless of the polish you use.

I like that smell.

Re: That new Guitar smell

The smell on my new SG has mostly faded away, but it was nice to have for a bit, considering it was my first new Gibson.

Re: That new Guitar smell

That smell is from the nitro lacquer they use. My LP Classic Custom had the same strong aroma too.

The smell will fade not matter what you do, but as far as taking care of the finish Gibson does offer a polish for the guitar along with fretboard conditioner and other care products.

I'm sure we are talking about the same smell here. My Custom's over 30 years old and I still get 'the smell' whenever I open the case.

They say that's the inside of the case - the glue or something. I don't care what it is, really, and I'm addicted to it.

Re: That new Guitar smell

Well I understand that every guitar is different and they even have different smells ins some cases, but to keep your hopes up, I bought a Studio back in 2008, and it still has that smell as if it was bought yesterday. I like that fresh new guitar smell as well.

My 38 year-old Custom still smells, so it does stay.

I just figure since they offer car fresheners with "new car smell" scent why not a guitar polish that offer that new guitar scent, or maybe an air freshener to leave in the case with that "new guitar scent"

Buy two of them and package them in a guitar sized box under the tree or is that too cruel

Re: That new Guitar smell

Never smelled it till I got my CC. It still has it and I love it. When I take my LP out of the case, I close it quickfastnotslow and latch it so I don't lose much smell!

Re: That new Guitar smell

I love the sweet smell of my new LP. Even the wife thought it smelled special... better than your average guitar. I recently took a tour of Gibson's Memphis/Beale street factory, and the tour culminates at the final buffing station--and the nitro lacquer smell was the overpowering icing on the cake! Yeah, I like that new guitar smell.

I like it so much that I replaced the air freshener spray in our bathroom with Reranch clear. I know it's poison, but it smells so damn good!
