Willpower dwindling - considering black beauty
I've always wanted a black Les Paul (are they all considered a black beauties?
) and one just came up on Craigslist a few blocks from my place: 2005 Gibson Les Paul Custom - Black It seems like a good price for a custom shop model. Any advice, thoughts on the price, or opinions about this particular model/year vs other black beauties? Speak now or forever hold your peace. |

Re: Willpower dwindling - considering black beauty
I don't think this is a Historic model, so I'm pretty sure it should have a maple top, but the Reissue Customs have mahogany tops like the original LPCs did. Not that it matters really, just something you might want to be aware of.
With that being said, I would hop on it! I love Customs with maple tops and that's a price that's more than fair! Looks great.

Re: Willpower dwindling - considering black beauty
My Les Paul Custom Black Beauty in my avatar is a 2005. Great guitar and $2000 is a decent price if it's in good shape. If it's legit and what you want then go for it.

Re: Willpower dwindling - considering black beauty
I've also always wanted one of these, but I own two LP Customs already and I don't play guitars that weigh more than 9 lbs. Which means I'd have to find that 1-in-a-million black beauty Custom blessed with unusually light weight. I also refuse to spend more than $2k for one in excellent (used) condition.
The one listed in that craigslist ad sounds perfect! I'd hop on it too if I knew it weighed no more than 9 lbs. (which I sincerely doubt). But that weight issue is simply my bugaboo; clearly it wouldn't and shouldn't stand in your way. I say go for it!

Re: Willpower dwindling - considering black beauty
I'm not huge into Customs. Actually there have been few that I've ever really wanted. That being said, I wouldn't throw that Custom out of bed for eating crackers!

Re: Willpower dwindling - considering black beauty
I have a 2006 Custom in White. Great guitar.
Some people don't like the customs as much as say a Standard or a historic, but it's all personal preference. The only thing I wish is it had a little less shoulders on the neck. That may well get shaved down some day. |

Re: Willpower dwindling - considering black beauty
I picked up a 2005 Ebony Custom a month or 2 ago. I love it for it's looks, feel and sound. It's the lightest of my 3 LP's too.
I would agree, GRAB THAT CUSTOM. It's an excellent deal at $2000 providing you like it of course. It should be priced between $2500-$3000 IMO. Here's mine, What's not to love???

Re: Willpower dwindling - considering black beauty
Go for it
this is a Les Paul forum, we're not going to talk you out of, we'll talk you into it.That looks pretty sweet and is a good price. If I would have seen that before I bought a Trad+ last week I would gladly pay 2k for a LPC. By the way I always wanted a 3 pickup black beauty LPC.
