Re: 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard on the Bay
$250,000 for a repaired, 60% original guitar? No thanks. Even if it was left handed, I wouldn't spend two grand on it.
Give me a house for $250,000. |

I saw this like a week ago, but it isn't worth $250,000 with that headstock repair.

Re: 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard on the Bay
As was mentioned in the other thread about this, the buyer probably posted this just to let people know that guitar is out there for sale. It priced too high cause the owner does not want it to sell and have to pay the bay the percentage they would get. I think...

Re: 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard on the Bay
That thing is beat to hell, and looks like crap. I'd take a new one any day.
Really though, the '60 burst for $120,000 looked to be in better shape. |

Re: 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard on the Bay
If you actually gave him $250K for that thing, he'd probably walk it to your house if you asked him to. Price is definitely high, and I think the assessment that it's largely there just to notify folks that it's for sale is accurate.

Re: 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard on the Bay
I'm not sure when the whole business with "matched" pickups (meaning a more powerful pickup in the bridge than in the neck) started, but I'm thinking most production guitars made it through the '70's with the same pickup in each spot, perhaps even well into the '80's. I know there were folks that personally hotrodded their guitars, but I dunno when it became as standard to have two different winds as it is now.

Re: 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard on the Bay
That's what I always wondered about these vintage instruments on ebay. I can't see anyone doing an ebay transaction for over $10k or $15k and even then I would try to find another way to go about things. Could you imagine ebays final value fee if that baby sold? Holy cow..
