Stolen 1972 Les Paul "Black Beauty"

7 April 2012

To All Gibson Guitar Owners, Players and Admirers,

On 18 March 2012 my Les Paul was stolen from my office suite in Raleigh, North Carolina. This guitar was purchased in 1973 from Paulus Music in Jacksonville, Florida. I have played it ever since. This instrument is my escape and my comfort. Those of you who play know to what I speak. The feel of the whole thing when you pick it up. The weight that carries a sound like no other. The smell of the wood, the finish when you open the case. When you run her up for volume check and tune. Then she settles in and the rest is magic. This is what I have lost and I need help getting her back. Please help.

1972 Les Paul Custom "Black Beauty" Reissue

Re: Stolen 1972 Les Paul "Black Beauty"

MV72. I am not far from you and check Craigslist several times a day. I will certainly keep my eye out. I would also hit Sam Ash and GC on Capitol and make them aware of it so they know to call the cops if it happens to walk in for a quick sale. Make up flyers and get them to all of the pawn shops in the area. Very sorry this happened to you.

Post a add looking a similar type/year guitar.. Be plain
**Looking for a black les paul like I had when I was younger.***Cant afford a new one, will pay for a older one.. and see if the crack head bites.

My daughters boyfriend just recently had his car broken into.. Ipod, stereo all gone.
He posted a add... IM looking for a I pod, doesnt matter what size. Need asap for school cash in hand..

Crack head e mailed him,he asked for pictures ... LOL its his.... Made arrangements to meet up took a handful of his friends..
Well lets say he got his stuff back and didnt pay for it
And no the police wouldn't help, because the person who took the original report hadn't turned it in yet so they wouldn't help

Good luck!!

Know a former marine who got his laptop stolen. Found it for sale again, let's just say he gave the "seller" 3 choices. He took the first - gave it back.

That really sucks to get something like that stolen. But if you get it back, at least it has a story along with it.

Sorry to hear it, will watch out for it down here in Jacksonville, FL. The drummer in my band worked at Paulus Music during that time, he may have even sold it to you.

Re: Stolen 1972 Les Paul "Black Beauty"

When you make up your flyer, fax it to every pawn shop in the area with a nice note and a clear time and date that you sent it to them. Politely, let them know that you were instructed to retain the records of all the faxes that you have sent to local pawn shops (no need to go into details as to who instructed you to do so "anonymous guy on the internet" isn't the first thing that they will think of).

Posting a wanted ad is a great idea. I'd be a little vague. If you post an ad for the exact guitar, even dumb thieves will be able to sniff out the ruse. If you get a bite and are pretty sure you are dealing with your guitar, call the police. They will have a detective talk to you and figure it out. You don't know who is on the other end of the communication or what they are capable of, and you are better off not finding out.
