Re: The Les Paul Classic Custom Club!!!

Took out the 57 classics and put in a set of Dimarzio 36th Anniversary PAF's. Changed volume pots to 500k. 50's wiring is next. Sounds great!

What are the differences in sound that you notice?

I love 57 (+) Classics, but have also wondered about the DiMarzios you mentioned.

+1 on the knobs. Don't see any reason to change anything else. I love it the way it is.
I mainly play the neck P/U and the '57 classic sounds perfect. I gotsa P-90 in my other LP in the neck so I can get any sound or English I want......love it!

For me, the 57's were pretty bad. Very low and boomy in the neck, and harsh and trebly in the bridge. I was surprised. I really wanted to like them. So I went for the Dimarzios. They really brought the guitar to life. They sound crisp and clear, very articulate. Glad I made the swap.

Re: The Les Paul Classic Custom Club!!!

I added a DiMarzio CrunchLab to the bridge of my CC and damn did it make a world of difference! I still have the '57 in the neck, might swap out the pot to a 500K soon

Re: The Les Paul Classic Custom Club!!!

I think I'll swap out the volume pots for 500k as well. Should I be looking at the long shaft or short shaft versions? PPAT500 is short and PPAT510 is long. I'm happy with my tone pots right now.

Re: The Les Paul Classic Custom Club!!!

All long shaft, yes. No real need to change out the tone pots. They're 500k audio taper pots. Just the volume pots need changed to 500k audio as well. Only my opinion of course. While you're in there, change out the caps and go for 50's wiring. If you're handy with a soldering iron this can all be done fairly easily and is a worthy upgrade.

Re: The Les Paul Classic Custom Club!!!

Bridge is a custom made Eide Heilage Vintage Custom, vintage-voiced Alnico bucker with coil split and black cover, neck is GFS Dream 90. They are not improvements as much as just different pickups, the Classic '57s that were stock were really good.

It makes it more flexible, I think. Especially the neck pickup helps with cleans and solos. I would have preferred the bridge to be a bit hotter, so I'm going to request the next one to be more VEH in character.

Your LPCC looks very cool!

I've been debating putting a Classic 57+ in the bridge. Some folks who have done it are really pleased with it.

Thanks! I've heard good things about the 57+, apparently it's got a bit more kick than the regular ones. Haven't tried them though.

Re: The Les Paul Classic Custom Club!!!

Does anyone know how many of these guitars (split diamond / baked maple) were produced? Also how many of each colour?

Re: The Les Paul Classic Custom Club!!!

More Classic Customs from Gibson. Rosewood FB and trapezoid inlays. I'd prefer baked maple due to smoothness, appearance when darkened, and I think it might be snappier sounding than rosewood. But maybe this'll trip some of your triggers? Only wine red and natural for sale on MF right now - but natural is pretty cool!

Re: The Les Paul Classic Custom Club!!!

I really like that natural. I have a Natural Antique from the first batch of the last CC run in 2011. I wouldn't mind trading for the new one just because I like the headstock and the natural finish better than my "yellowish" natural I have now.
My CC as it looks in most light.

My CC in a bad photo with the color I wish it was.

Or.....I could just get a new one (checks over shoulder to make sure wife isn't reading )

Re: The Les Paul Classic Custom Club!!!

I was finding my CC's sound a bit too light, thin or whatever you may want to call it, so I followed a few tips: replaced the pots with CTS 500K, replaced the caps with Orange drops (.022 and .015), rewired to 50's style with vintage cloth wire.
It still sounds too trebly to my ear...

Has anyone tried removing the covers of the 57 Classic pickups?

My guitar is still stock,,, (apart from the knobs). I got a different amp, and adjusted my pickup height,,, that made a difference for me. My cc kicks ass now. And I won't be modding my guitar, its amazing as it is.

Re: The Les Paul Classic Custom Club!!!

It looks like they merged features of the 2007 CC with the 2011 CC to come up with a new version. Took the diamond off the headstock and the square inlays for standard.

I find the opposite. Mine is stock and it sound very full and thick.
I was working on some stuff last week and switched to my BFG to perk it up a bit. The CC just sounded too full for what I was doing. I had the bass on my HT-5TH turned almost all the way off to compensate. I normally have the bass in the EQ up to almost full with my other guitars.
Hopefully, your mods fix your problem. Every git is a different animal I guess.
