Hi folks,
Beautiful guitar, killer price, but does the logo look right to you guys?
Gibson Les Paul Standard

Seller thinks it's might be a '57 re-issue but I haven't heard of them writing that in the pickup cavity, and he does say it's a Standard

For once the irrepressible urge to pull the trigger has been tempered by the shortness of funds, however if this one's genuine (which I think it is but I aint no expert) then I'm on it.
I mean, you don't really need two kidney's do ya?

Thanks all

Re: i dot

Don't see many reissues with a Nashville bridge and a USA serial number.....

Looks like a nice Standard in any case.

Re: i dot

Ah, I spotted this on the bay yesterday.

I think it's possible the finish has just checked around the logo - see my avatar. And he could be mis-reading the writing and it could simply be LPST - the techs handwriting can be a bit sloppy sometimes. I think R7s are all gold tops IIRC, as the finish didn't change to sunburst until 1958.

Re: i dot

Cheers budd,
I've got my eye on 3 Les Pauls on ebay.
I had sworn not to spend any more cash on guitars for a while (except for a Baja Tele and a celestion greenback ) but they are ending soon with little or no bidders on low prices.
And I'm weak

Re: i dot

Thanks for that onlypadog.
I didn't know that they wrote in the cavaties.
I know that my 89 standard doesn't have anything in there

Did you see the other two I'm looking at/lusting over?

2002 Standard
2004 Standard

I can feel my wallet getting lighter

Re: i dot

Saw this on Ebay too, last night. It stood out because of the starting price. Not sure about the logo, to be honest - but I also wondered why it looked like that. I don't see anything there which screams fake, though.

Maybe ask the seller for better pics and send them to Gibson customer services to ask if it's genuine in their opinion. They are happy to do this, but it can take a day or two to receive a reply.

Good luck! Looks a nice guitar. If it is a 57 reissue, then so much the better. I like those a lot.

Re: i dot

Honestly I've seen a few guits with this finish checking around the logo and whole headstock area....Here's my latest purchase and my number 1:

As for writing in the pup cavities, this is what I've usually found under pups:

I'm one for grain - out of the three you've shown I'm most drawn to the 2002 standard from Ireland
