Re: teardrop or rimburst?

I tend to like teardrop burst finishes a tad more. That was also a factor besides the colour itself why I went with Light Burst when I got my Traditional.
Here is mine:

I´m sure you will love your Traditional when you get it, Honeyburst is a beautiful finish! It will be worth the time you wait!

Re: teardrop or rimburst?

I like teardrop much much better. In fact.... I dislike rimbursts.

However..... I have a rimburst Ice Tea LP and i'm not bothered by the rim-ness. The guitar is awesome in every way!

Although I still think it would look better if it were teardrop.

Re: teardrop or rimburst?

I can appreciate a rimburst in the fact that it shows more flame. I like the teardrops for a vintage vibe though, of course.

I wish we had burst that look like how the original wear invented the finish.

that being said, teardrop.

Rim burst follows the edges of the body then a uniform burst.

teardrop just follows the belly of the guitar then tapers off towards the neck.

Re: teardrop or rimburst?

Rimburst sticks to the edges of the guitar, fading more or less evenly to the middle. Teardrop is heavier near the neck, leading to a teardrop shape. I prefer the teardrop, as it looks more like a LP is "supposed" to look to me.

Rimburst:

I am going to ask a guitar shop if I can play and see five or six trads, all honeyburst, and pick the one that looks best. Hope I will get a nice one.

It isn't cheap and it really isn't worth it for them to order so many Honeybursts (or many guitars of the same finish)

I dont like rimbursts at all. I dont know what the hell theyre thinking with those, they look funny on a Paul.

I dont know why, it just makes the body look wrong, disproportionate... Teardrop for me!!

Re: teardrop or rimburst?

Basically, I stand back and look at it. If my eyes like it, then they like it. If not, well....
Either way is cool or not cool, and could change from day to day.
OP, buy the one you like. They're all cool if they play well. Nobody will talk crap about your guitar on the style of burst you get. There's plenty of other things to ridicule and berate.
