Re: Anyone buy from Music Go Round
I've got a Music-Go-Round store local to me. They have some decent stuff but a lot of junk to. I've bought directly from the store but never bought from them online.

Re: Anyone buy from Music Go Round
Agree with HRC. Last time I was in one of their physical stores, their "labelled" prices were pretty ridiculous compared what you could find the stuff for online, or even for what you would pay for a comparable new one at MF or GC. Not sure if they haggle much or not.

Re: Anyone buy from Music Go Round
Every once in a while, they'll come up with something really good. A buddy of mine picked up a $1000 Randall tube amp for $400, and a week later, did it again. Sold the first one for almost a grand, and ended up getting the both for what was pretty much free.
They have a great return policy too; try it and if you don't like it send it back. They'll haggle too. They DO seem cheaper online than to walk into the store. I've bought online from them at a different franchise, when the one in my city was more expensive. |

Re: Anyone buy from Music Go Round
I had a local one that closed recently. I didn't realize it was a chain until reading this. I agree on the marked price being way to high but the only time I ever did actually buy from them I talked them down to right at half of what they were asking for a piece of PA gear. Which also tells me they are someone I wouldn't want to try to sell to. I guess more or less its a specialized pawn shop.

Re: Anyone buy from Music Go Round
I deal with the one in Greensboro NC a couple times a year. They don't haggle but they seem to have good low prices.
I've bought from a couple online also; they haggled but shipping was high IMO. Overall I've never had a bad experience with them.

Re: Anyone buy from Music Go Round
It's a chain, but the stores are franchises. So they can vary greatly.
The one in St. Paul is not bad at all. The only new guitars they stock are imports like Stagg or the Hamer Slammer series. They get some pretty cool used stuff going through there regularly. Some of it is priced high, but that's usually because it's on consignment. |

Re: Anyone buy from Music Go Round
Y'all got to learn how to haggle. I've gotten some really great deals there. Marked price is just a starting point.

Re: Anyone buy from Music Go Round
I have one a half mile from me. They aren't bad, at least mine. They are a franchise so ymmv.
I like stopping in there every couple weeks to see if anything cool has come through. They rarely have guitars I'm interested in but the amps, pedals and rack gear/pro audio stuff is always interesting. I got an old Fender 2x10 empty cab there for $10. I had some old 10" Fender speakers that were given to me, so it worked out very nice. That cab blows my Marshall 4x12 away. I finally covered it in some nice woven amp cloth donated from work a couple days ago. Now it's stylish too. |

Re: Anyone buy from Music Go Round
Just wanted to add that I've had great experience with their staff as well. I've gotten to know a few of them and they've done pickup changes for me for $10 bucks while I look around the store. No having to leave it for a week or whatever until a tech gets a chance. So my experiences have all been very positive.

Re: Anyone buy from Music Go Round
I just had a nasty experience with a cello purchase online from the Natick location - it came with two cracks and the bow was broken! Talked to Phil (the owner/operator) and his responses were far too slow and unreasonable! He was reluctant to claim insurance, unhelpful, not fulfilling his warranty policy, and finally I sent the cello back for full refund. It was such an unpleasant and disappointing experience, not only with a broken instrument (which Phil claimed he did not notice them), but also the way he handled the claim. Would never buy from them again.

Re: Anyone buy from Music Go Round
There are two MGR locations by me and both are a pleasure to deal with. There is a lot of cheaper guitars there (which is really cool when you're first starting out) and sometimes they come across some really nice ones. I make the rounds every week because their pedal selection is insane and there is always something new everyday. Good people to deal with as well. Like stated above they are a franchise and your mileage may vary.

Re: Anyone buy from Music Go Round
It depends on which one you go to, sometimes you win or sometimes you lose. But its better than doing drugs or alcohol because with drugs or alcohol especially drugs you always lose

Re: Anyone buy from Music Go Round
I did not know they were franchises. Interesting. My locl one does ZERO haggling, but then their prices are pretty low on a LOT of things. I would never sell to them though (they really lowball, ergo why their prices are so low). Also, JUST bought a Weber Mass 100 Attenuator from Houston MGR. Tracking will have it here Thursday. We shall see if what they said matches reality.
