tribute setup

Sorry guys I know it's here but cannot find it, How high do I want my p90's on my 60's tribute from the strings? also what is the suggested string height and on what fret is it usually measured, I know there was a link to a gibson setup page somewhere, and it said High E string 3/64 and Low E 5/64th's but I could be mistaken, anyone remember or can you point me to some information.

When I google setting up les paul's all I get is lame video's and sites that sell guitars. I know you guys know your stuff. Thanks

Re: tribute setup

There are no rules really.
I set my bridge P90 fairly close to the strings and adjust it as I play. You'll hear a sweet spot.

The neck P90 is have low and far away from the strings. I adjust it to be tha same volume as the bridge P90. Getting too close to the strings on a neck P90 can make it muddy sounding.

Action is very personal. Set it to what feels good to you.
try starting with 3/64" at the 12th fret for the high E and 4/64" for the low E.

I like my action higher but, everyone has their preference.

It's the perfect height when it's sounds right to your ear.

Re: tribute setup

I play a lot using the neck pup, so I adjust that one to where is sounds best to me, then get the bridge pup to about the same output level. A little micro adjusting to get the best out of both, I then call it all OK..
I have a '50's tribute with P90's...love it to death.

Mine would up with the neck fairly low, but higher than I first had it...sounds nice and gritty, and the bridge pup is pretty high...just sings! If it all sounds good to you, then it's right...for once, you are the boss.

I think the Tributes are super guitars.

Re: tribute setup

jkp44 I returned the guitar today but I have been hunting for that link all day. Thanks man, just bookmarked it. Never know when ya might need it, I usually have my friend do all my work he is a full time luthier, but if it's something small i can handle it but my mind forgets things over time, especially measurements so this will help.
