E String Problem with Grover Tuners

Hey guys.. Little problem concerning my high E string on my 2008 standard
Ive had the guitar 4 weeks and 3 High- E strings have broken on it.

Any tips/ resolutions? Is it something to do with the lockers on the tuners being too tight
Any response is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

it's usually a problem at the saddle. If the notch in the saddle has any burrs, it will cause the string to bread there. are the strings breaking there? If they are breaking near the saddle, take it to a good tech to see if he can file the burr down.

Re: E String Problem with Grover Tuners

Switch it with another tuner, say the G string. See if the breakage continues. If so, it's most likely a burr, see if you can find it and smooth it out. If the breakage continues on the E string, it's something else.

Re: E String Problem with Grover Tuners

The string will usually break close to where the problem is, like the other's have stated it's most likely to be a sharp edge at the saddle or tuner or even just the way you're stringing it up

Rub some fine sandpaper or emory paper though there. Needle file could work.

Is tampa correct?

If they broke at the tailpiece, then there is something seriously wrong with that. What make of strings are you using? Are they cheap crap, or from one of the 'quality' brands?

If they are breaking at the bridge saddle, then you need to consider having that looked at, as has been suggested, due to some burrs or over-sharpness.

If they are breaking at the nut, then that's the area requiring attention.

If they are breaking at the post, then it is likely that the tiny rod that is actuated in the locking tuner is cutting through the thin 1st string. On my '08 Standard I do not 'lock' the top two strings, but wind them conventionally.

If it is a burr, emery paper folded (creased) into a "V" applied to the notch.

Again,
get a piece of fine grade sandpaper and smooth out the string notch in the saddle.
