Would you recommed the Fender Blues Deluxe tube amp?
Would you recommend this amp for hard rock stuff and for a Les Paul?
Or would you recommed some orange or marshall? Just help me |

Re: Would you recommed the Fender Blues Deluxe tube amp?
For some reason I laughed like a sumbitch at the 'just help me' at the end of the original post.
Anyway I used to have a Blues Deluxe and it's an OK amp for hard rock if you can get away with having it cranked or if you've got an OD pedal, but if you're just going for a hard rock sound I'd probably choose something different. |

From what I've heard blues deluxes have a great clean channel but a not so good dirt channel.

All of 'em?
That's quite something. I, frankly, find it hard to believe.

Re: Would you recommed the Fender Blues Deluxe tube amp?
I had a Blues Deluxe RI for a year or so. The clean channel is fantastic but the drive channel sadly is very thin and brittle sounding.
If you are able to crank it to the max you will get a great tube distortion. However, it is a really loud amp... With a good sounding drive pedal on the clean channel your options are wide open. Keep in mind that this amp can pump out some serious bass. After I sold this amp I got a Blues Jr. and was happier with that one. |

LesAdrian, the thing you have to remember about Fender amps is this: they were designed for tons of clean headroom. Consequently, they'll knock your fillings out before you find their sweet spot. They're hugely powerful amps, so it's best to go small with Fenders if you're looking for sweet spot overdrive w/o an od pedal. You're thinking about a *lot* of amp, there. It would help if we knew what kind of sound you were going for. |

Re: Would you recommed the Fender Blues Deluxe tube amp?
I have had a blues deluxe and a blues jr .Different animals. The BDX is loud and the type of volume pot it has makes it hard to control at rehearsals and small clubs. The OD channel can sound brittle if you dont roll off the tone knob of your guitar. The blues jr is a decent little amp .Very portable and decent tones.Sometimes it can be hard to cut thru the mix though.I have a Fender Deluxe Reverb and it gets some great tones with any guitar I own.Cuts thru the mix well and has a great clean tone and it takes pedals really well .

Re: Would you recommed the Fender Blues Deluxe tube amp?
I just sold a Blues Deluxe a couple on months ago. Everything that has been said about it so far is true...It is a LOUD amp. The dirty channel stinks, didn't find much use for that channel. The clean channel was awesome. It took pedals very well. If you were going for hard rock only, and I were you, I would look at some other amps.

Re: Would you recommed the Fender Blues Deluxe tube amp?
As mentioned, it is according to what you are gonna be using it for. Its actually WAY to big for just home bedroom playing. For that, you could look into the Blues Jr. or Pro Junior. Alot of guys also like the Mustang line. I tried the Mustangs but chose a Super Champ XD instead, also a good choice for playing at home or rehearsals.

Re: Would you recommed the Fender Blues Deluxe tube amp?
Hard rock is a fairly vague term. When i think hard rock i think ACDC of GNR. Other might say Zep or Sabbath. Either way I'd go Marshall every time. I think fenders are great for blues and the like (5E3 is one of the best amps ever). I've not herd any great sounding hard rock songs with fenders. I'm sure someone here will probably pull me up on that though.

Re: Would you recommed the Fender Blues Deluxe tube amp?
Good amp but I would recommend the Fender Super-Sonic, Great cleans like any good Fender & big thick tone-full drive. You can find them used for around $800 & they put the other fenders to shame if your looking for good drive from a Fender. They are 60 watts & Fender also makes a 22 watt version if you need less power. Here is a video from the other night with me playing my R9 through my Super-Sonic. It's the amps drive with a light reverb.
I changed the video to one that covers some rhythm playing from the original that I posted with mostly leads.

Fender Deluxe Reverb is also a very nice choice.

Re: Would you recommed the Fender Blues Deluxe tube amp?
A Deluxe Reverb Reissue with a good overdrive pedal (or 2) is a good option. If you want to get the overdrive out of the amp, a small tube Marshall or derivative may be more to your liking. The nice thing about using a pedal for your overdrive is you can change your overdrive sound just by swapping in another pedal. Of course that has led to may of us amassing a LOT of overdrive pedals, which can become a problem...

Did you look at the Vox? The Night Train stuff or the AC15 might do what you want, without having to cram a round peg in a square hole.

I thought the drive channel on the Blues Deluxe was fine for bluesy stuff, but I wound up mostly using overdrive pedals into the clean side anyway and the cleans are a lot nicer on the DRRI, so the BD had to go. The thing I miss most about the BD is the effects loop.

Dang , I forgot about the AC15.The other guitar player in my band plays his lester thru one and gets decent tones. Not terribly expensive either.

Re: Would you recommed the Fender Blues Deluxe tube amp?
AC15 or Egnater Tweaker 15
Egnater has a Marshall, Vox and Fender setting. The cleans on the Fendery channel are great. The cranked gain AC15 out does the AC15 IMO. Its the reason i bought the amp. My gain channel AC15 sounds mean and dominant

Re: Would you recommed the Fender Blues Deluxe tube amp?
I owned a Blue Deluxe back in the mid 90s and while I loved the clean, there gain channel was pretty much useless for me. I was playing rock and grunge type stuff and used a Mesa Vtwin or Big Muff for all of my distortion needs through the Blues Deluxe. It was a great amp, but I wasn't able to get a driven tone that I liked.
EDIT: For the price of a new Blues Deluxe, I picked up a used Marshall TSL 60 and a 4x12 w/greenbacks. There are better hard rock options out there for the same money. |
