Classics Discontinued?

Was just looking on Gibson's official site. Apparently the Les Paul Classics are being discontinued. Gibson Les Paul Electric Guitars, Les Paul Classic Guitar, Digital Guitar Speces and Images and Les Paul Special Guitar Videos and media

Are traditional's supposed to become the new "classics"?

+1

Gibson is going under. They should for getting rid of the guitars that were actually attainable (and not junk).

Re: Classics Discontinued?

Agh! I love classics!

I was planning on getting one eventually but I wanted the EDS-1275 and Axcess first!

Whatever, saves me money.

I payed $2,600 for my R8 a 41 days ago and I'm still waiting for it to arrive. Still, $2,600 brand new!!!!

I personally wouldn't pay over $3,000 for an R8. I mean I would if it was my only option but shop around, call mom n pops and see if they can get you one cheaper than GC and chances are even if it's not under 3K it will be cheaper by a substantial amount vs guitar center at 4K.

Well, they may not be "literally" going under, but to me they are.

What are they gonna have that I can afford? Melody Maker? I don't think they make those anymore either =/

You're in luck!
I have a Melody Maker for sale!

Brand new, in the box, with a Gibson soft bag as well.
Played maybe three hours, had it a year.

As far as affordability, I can't afford a Ferrari or a Lear Jet. I'll survive.
I'll keep buying nicer Gibsons as I can...

The Classic never was a big seller, there will be plenty of new stock around for awhile.
Same with the old Standard, only in much greater numbers.

Re: Classics Discontinued?

its about time the classic went away.

whats the real point of it other than the neck profile? it was different when they first introduced them due to the more vintage-type appointments. but now, hell just buy the Traditional. 99.9% of people prefer the Classic 57s anyways...i doubt many people will be buying the ceramics after the fact to install into newer LPs.

i swear i was just reading a thread about how people think gibson offers too many types of LPs...perhaps they listened to us. and lets face facts, the Studio PP kinda defeats the point of a Studio...just save a few more bucks and buy a Std or Traditional. and the Classic Antique really isnt needed now that the Traditional is around. and while i like the BFG, it was totally overpriced. just my $0.02.

I always wanted a goldtop, but I got a real nice deal on my '99 honeyburst. Sad to see the line go. It always seemed to me that some LP players thought the Classic line was a "lesser" Les Paul.

I'm in your camp. Gibson offered too many Les Pauls. A smaller herd is likely a better herd IMO.

I think Ford and company are finally figuring it out too. Too many models and options. I read where an a Lincoln Continental there were over 100,000 variations in options off the base model! WTF? SO they now offer rigid packages rather than build your own.

Gibson was not quite that crazy, but did cater to a wide crowd with so many models. Now perhaps we'll have limited GOTW type small runs of some specialised Les Pauls each year. The full time stable will contain a smaller herd, but specialized offerings will likely occur.
Either that or they want to drive us to their Custom shop , which from what we all hear, REALLY charges you for their work.
