Re: Classics Discontinued?

There are other models they could have considered discontinuing before the Standard and Classic, in my opinion. Like for example the HD.6-X Pro Digital and Studio Premium Plus. Oh well, glad I got one before this happened, guess used prices will just rise from now on.

Re: Classics Discontinued?

I think that sucks, my 05 Classic is by far one of my favorites (actually, it's my #2)
but I do agree cutting back on models isnt a bad thing. So, now we have collector's items that are going to be worth 50 gazzillion dollars in 20 years! right?

yes. the slim taper is really the only the reason the classic existed IMO. but for me, switching between a 50s and 60s neck is no biggie.

Here's one I used to own. One of the best playing guitars I've ever owned.

Looks like the BFG got the axe too. I'm surprised the Classic's going, tho. Would have thought it's one of the better sellers

Re: Classics Discontinued?

My guess is that they wanna sell the new so called "08 standard" and if you have other choices, chances are those are not gonna sell much.

Re: Classics Discontinued?

The classic model had close to a 20 year run. Pretty impressive.

I always had a love/hate relationship with the classic model. I do think it was an important model not only for Gibson, but for players...

and for the ugly behemoth we know as "RAWK!"

Re: Classics Discontinued?

Dont you think by looking at all the models they are discontinuing that they will come out with new/updated versions of those models? It makes sense to me. Because the only new les paul models are the standard and the traditional. Personally I wish they would come out with new models. :-/ Deno

I don't think there is one current model on this list I would buy.

Re: Classics Discontinued?

I would consider a traditional as my next guitar, but the one thing that does concern me is that there are no options for the color "wine red" anymore and I definitely want a Wine Red LP as my next guitar.

There are a lot of used 90's Standards (which supposedly "influenced" the Traditional model) floating around, for a lot less money. I'm sure the Traditional is a fine model, I just question the marketing strategy?

I was never a fan of the green inlays and the necks could be a little too skinny, but many of those plaintops were quite elegant looking. The only Standard USA with an ABR was also a nice bonus.

And the classic could really "RAWK" with those ceramic pu's!

the classic has had the nashville for a while now.

like i said before, with the exception of the neck profile, there really isnt a need for the Classic. and i think gibson has a very good marketing strategy. seems like the Traditional is taking off.

Re: Classics Discontinued?

Mine weighs alot, and has major mojo. & I really like the plain top.
So, like others noted, I'm not real interested at the moment
in purchasing any of the brand-new standard run models anyway.
Kinda in the market for an 1980-1983 Standard.

For the past few years, but the model had an abr for 14-15 years.

The pu option in the classic appealed to some, as well as the neck profile, plaintops or wine red option. "Need" is probably subjective, but there is an established customer base that play Classic's and the traditional doesn't seem to fill that base.
