Les Paul Junior vs SG Classic/Tribute.....
I've been really gassing for something with P90's and I made the fatal mistake (as usual) of going down to my local music shop and giving a LP Junior a good thrashing....now I want one damnit! What a versatile guitar for something that has two knobs and one P90! It's in my price range and the only other P90 option in that price range would be a SG Classic/Tribute special.....
They only have one in stock (and no SG Classic/Tributes) and it's a white one, but it's got a nice dark almost ebony looking fretboard (I presume it's rosewood).... What are the upgrades people do to the Juniors? Or do you just leave them stock and play them until your fingers and your neighbour's ears bleed? ![]() I was wondering if there's a significant sound difference between the LP Junior and the SG Classic....any insights would be nice. They should get stock of the SG's in at the end of the month.... |

no upgrades needed... i have nothing against SG's and have played a few p90 Sg's... good stuff... i prefer the LP junior though, it's kinda like the dark horse "sleeper " guitar one pick up simple slab body... nuttin to it right? then you plug that sucker in and...

Re: Les Paul Junior vs SG Classic/Tribute.....
As far as Les Paul Junior upgrades are concerned some people leave them stock, some tweak them just a little, it really depends on the year. Some early 50 models have a problem with the bridge posts being to close to the pickup route causing the bridge to tilt due to wood fatigue or the wood splits between the bridge post and the pickup cavity. Some have a bridge (wrap around) that is intonated with "steps" for a wound "G" string and get a replacement bridge intonated for an unwound "G" string. I own one as a personal player that the bridge mounting posts were incorrectly placed for proper bridge alignment and intonation from the factory and doweled the post holes and moved them back around an 8th of an inch for proper intonation , it really depends on the guitar itself, they ( Les Paul Juniors) are killer simple guitars that really do deliver. It does surprise me that an SG goes for less than a LP junior in most instances as both are great guitars.

Re: Les Paul Junior vs SG Classic/Tribute.....
Juniors are simple and cool but the SG Classic has two P-90's and a little more tonal range IMHO. I have had both and like the SG a bit more because of the two pickups. I am biased since an SG was my first guitar!

Well I pulled the trigger and got myself a Satin White LP Junior with the ebony fretboard. I'm super stoked with it and can't wait to get it home!!!

Sweet. They are cool guitars. I would like a sunburst one again. So can you see a bit of grain through the white or is it solid? You have to post pics too!

It sounds epic...I've been playing it all evening and I'm still over the moon...not a single bit of buyers remorse. The only thing that is a bit annoying is the sharpish edge on the neck where the fretboard and the paint meet. Any tips on smoothing that out? |
