John Norum? LP action Europe

Anybody into John Norum? He got into playing LPs in the last few years with Europe. Sounds great here:

Re: John Norum? LP action Europe

I think Europe's the reason why so many kids got keyboards in the 80's.

Guilty, one cheap Casio that sounded like a DX-7.

Re: John Norum? LP action Europe

truth be told, I never liked the syrupy keyboard shit that they do. But they always had kick ass guitar players who played really cool solos. Both Kee Marcello and John Norum had that melodic metal feel with blues rock thrown.

Didn't we all know one kid who had to play the keyboard?

Re: John Norum? LP action Europe

I recently browsed some Europe stuff. More of his Les Pauls in the vid below where he goes through his gear. It's not long ago I saw his WR Custom up for sale somewhere btw. Not that it was worth more than any old Custom though. I don't think so at least.
I kind of also don't appreciate their keyboards unless it's a ballad, or the Final Countdown.

Thanks for the vid. Those 1974 Customs are nice. Simple but effective set up as well.

I just found this, gotta throw it on this thread. John Norum solo, at his best with a sweet black Custom:

Ahhhh...Europe.

I remember it fondly: 16 years old, long summer holidays, lying in bed listening to Love Chaser on my tape cassette recorder, with a boner the size of a brick.

Talk about the good ole days, heh?

Europe was awsome in their prime. Don't really care much for the newer stuff.

As far as guitarrists go i prefer Kee Marcellos work over John Norums any day of the week (and twice on sundays). He also seems to favour Gibsons.

That's one massive shampoo, conditioner, and blowdrier electricity consumption bill right there, if you ever saw one.

this is always been a debate regarding Europe. To me, they're 2 different voices. Kee is more technical and has more chops. John has more bluesy/hard rock feel and plays with more gutsy.
I happen to love them both.
Kee's new album is coming out Jan.14. I just saw the first video, and he's playing er...an Epiphone (looks like a custom job for him with a Floyd rose). Have you guys in Sweden read his book?

He's playing an Epi Pro/FX like mine;

Yes, both guys are great players. The Kee era stuff just sticks better in my head. My first contact with Europe was as late as when they released the prisoners in paradise album so that might make a difference.

Didn't know he had a book out. Is it the standard rockstar biography thing? Love those!

I'll be sure to check both things out. Thanks!

I definitely like all of Kee's solos on "Out Of this World". They had chops but very well thought out and fit the songs.
You can check out his book and the new CD info on his site. I bet there's some good road stories with Europe in the decadent 80s.
