Les paul with floyd rose!!!!!

Went to GUITAR CENTER today, and BAMM! they just got it yesterday!the AXCESS LES PAUL,I was very hesitant about if could measure up in the feel, tone, and overall playablity!! truely I was VERY skeptical.I was really impressed with all of the fine details,I checked the neck, and the frets very closely A+ They must have paid great attention to this one!Now the fun part.I had FLOYD ROSES,KAHLERSand locking tremelo systems on my FENDER STRAT,also have a EDDIE WOLFGANG,however Iam not really into all of that whammy stuff [not my cup of tea ] so to speak! BUT this guitar really rocks!GIBSON REALLY GOT IT RIGHT! the neck is contured into the body upper AXCESS is amazinly easy!the top part of the body is contured also kind of like the back of a strat $3400+ is a little steep however I think that GIBSON is going to make alot of players dreams come true.

Re: Les paul with floyd rose!!!!!

Cool to hear!

I bet it plays great but I can't stand the look of a Paul with a floyd.
I guess I'll have to play one before I judge

One day I wouldn't mind to buy a guitar like a wolfgang or a jackson or something
My G&L's neck is extremely fast , but I would love to have a guitar with a floyd

Re: Les paul with floyd rose!!!!!

Listen to Petrucci, Vai, Satriani et el, all users of guitars with Floyd Rose type bridges. Their tones sound just peachy when fully saturated. But when they hit the clean channel their tone sounds cold to my ears. It's the Floyd. With all that metal and mechanical stuff in between the bridge saddles and the wood, you're hearing the metal instead of the wood.

One of the reasons the Les Paul sounds as good as it does is the bridge plugged right into the wood. The strings vibrate the bridge saddles, the vibrations go into the wood where it rings like a bell and back into the strings and you can hear the wood.

I wouldn't mind owning a guitar with a Floyd Rose, but seeing them on a Paul makes my skin crawl.

what about Mark Knopfler? his Pensa-Suhr has a Floyd Rose trem and EMG pups but he still sounded good.

Re: Les paul with floyd rose!!!!!

I think the various trems should have been standard options for years - hardtail, vintage-style or Wilkinson, and Floyd should've been factory standard. Gibson lost a lot of sales over the years because of that, all the way back to EVH.

YouTube - Best Guitar Performance Ever
I love Mark Knopfler but that tone he has in this video is NO WAY NEAR as great as the original version of Sultans of Swing. BTW, why a Floyded buitar if the bar is removed? I am sure there is a reason (endorsements etc) but I don't think his tone is anywhere near as full as it used to be.

Re: Les paul with floyd rose!!!!!

What is that guitar that Knopfler is playing? A Pensa-Suhr? I hadn't heard of that before and thought he played a Strat - shows how much I know! As for the tone, I wouldn't compare a YouTube concert video to one of the best studio albums ever released. Okay, so that's my opinion, but I really liked that album.

I've been eying the Access every time I see one at my local shop. Frankly though, I don't really have the need for the tremolo. In fact, I had to change my playing style for the PRS since with the LP I tended to rest my hand on the bridge frequently while playing which has bad consequences when it is a tremolo.

However, for $3500 (at GC) I'm not sure I'd pop for it unless I really start using one a lot. Since I don't currently have a guitar with one, that isn't likely to happen.

IMO a floyd rose guitar can sound very very good, but it depends on my preferences. For instance: for some people a guitar with a lot of sustain is considered a great guitar, but some people don't like that at all. Look at those accoustic Django style gipsy guitars... they lack sustain. To me they sound dead, but for the style of music that is just what they need. You just cannot play gipsy style music with a great sounding martin or Taylor.

Anyways, those guitarists you mention all use basswood bodies (IMO not very good tonewood to begin with)... so you cannot compare those to an axcess made of the correct les paul woods. Ok it COULD sound less great than a fixed bridge model, but it would not sound as thin (or as you say cold) as those ibanez/jackson etc basswood/poplar/alder superstrat guitars. Although I have heard some that really sound great.

It really depends on what sound you like. So a good or bad sounding guitar is just a matter of opinion and preference. Your good tone can sound like shit to someone else and vice versa.

So whether a floyd equiped guitar sounds bad (or cold), is just a matter of your opinion/preference.

How about the mapleflame mod, and those guys who prefer the aluminum tailpiece and stuff... IMO it makes a les paul sound more metal too, but people seem to like it. So more metal between the strings and the body wood doesn't mean a worse sound... just different. Some like it, some don't. I prefer the sound of a zinc tailpiece over the aluminum ones. Sometimes I prefer the sound of a tremolo with heavy steel sustain block over a fixed type bridge. The sound is different, but I cannot say the one is better than the other.
