Me either. Doubt I`d hear ant tone reduction playing live and loud.
Studio work might be another thing.

Re: TP6 tailpiece, yay or nay?

I know I'm late to the party...........

I would have to say in my personal experience without adoubt the TP6 does affect tone.

I would not say its a tone sucker, more a change in flavor.

It can affect tone in positive or negative ways depending on all things....

Pickups
Amp
Wood

The TP6 will tame the highs and upper mids noticeably........It will also round out the bass nicely, with what I feel is a touch more sustain in all registers.

I personally like how it interacts with BB Pro's (which I Normally Hate)

I also like it in combination with EMG 81 and 60, not so much with the 85.

I have also found.....with no sound reasoning or facts.......that I can get a little better action and smoother play on my '07 VM Studio using the TP6

This all being said, I had one on a '78 Norlin TB Standard w/T-tops , and it sound and felt like doggy do doo, just lifeless. I put a light weight Allparts stop tail back on it and boom.....tone arrived?

So you may hate it or you may love it , it depends on your other gear and the sound are personally after.

And for what its worth.

If the TP6 is the cake, a locking nut is the ice cream they go well together. If used together and installed correctly its about as good as it gets tuning and intonation wise on LP.

LP's are notoriously touchy at G and occasionally B, a locking nut removes that problem from the equation.

Up here in the Seattle and South Sound area, you'll see guys, not many, but you will see them, gigging LP Studios or Off brand LP's with locking nuts and fine tune Tailpieces, because of the tuning stability.

Of course throwing a locking nut on a Studio isn't a big deal.

But most enthusiast aren't gonna throw one on their babies thats just not proper

I was thinking of putting one on the 57 BB replica I was building but, desided to keep it looking original. I haven't given up on changing the knobs even though I haven't done it yet.

Nice looker!

Aesthetically the original design looks better, imo. TP6's are not unlike a hot girl with braces.

Re: TP6 tailpiece, yay or nay?

I used them in the 90's on all my LPs. On downside I found is (depending on your LP's dish shape) they tend to scratch or indent guitar face towards the rear of the tailpiece. I few of mine had a mark therre wherre the tailpiece was after removing them.

Re: TP6 tailpiece, yay or nay?

I have got a TP6 on my LP, in combination with a harmonica bridge, T-Tops, maple neck. Playing through a Marshalltop and 412 cab with G12h-30īs and I cant dream of a better tone. I wouldnīt dare messing with this combination.
