FINALLY got a LPC. (And hello to the board!)
Hey everyone! i had made this accoutn a long time ago to view pictures, I think.. but I never felt liek i should post, since i didnt even own a les paul.
since i started playing, years and years ago, I've been buying random guitars here and there, including a cort, a stellar, a kramer, an agile, an esp, and a gibson 67 RI V. all of these were just stupid buys, just to try and convince myself they would be "almost" the same. i always was in the mindset that a les paul was too expensive. well, as you can see, i spent enough money to buy one, or maybe two used ones. ha. so i found a Gibson Les Paul custom, circa 1981 (thanks to craigslist). i wanted it, so i sold my eclipse in a day (the last electric i had left), for 1000 and conveniently had 1000 to spare. here is a little history about the guitar: I bought it is toronto, the owner said that he was the 3rd owner of it. the firs thad a kahler and emgs installed. the second who bought it sent it to the gibson repair/restoration shop to put on new gold hardware (TOM and bridge.), which of course would require a slight refinish. aroudn the holes and such. then a matched pair of gibson 57' classic pickups (from the 1990s) were put in, along with all gibson pots, and wiring. there are some gudeman (sp?) NOS oil + paper capacitors on the tone pots, they seem to give em a huuge range. there was also a fret dress done. the 3rd owner sold it to me for 2000 CAD, and had shipped it from toronto to my home in British columbia. i had a member of another forum im at check it out for me before we made the deal. Re: FINALLY got a LPC. (And hello to the board!)
so i got it, and played it. i was amazing. i was wondering what it was made of, and how it was constructed (being from near the end of the norlin era, at a time where some things were uncirtain)
i could plainly see the neck was 3 piece mahogany with a volute, as expected. but the body didnt look liek a pancake, and i couldnt tell anyways. so i emailed gibson with this inquiry, they instructed me to take all sorts of pictures at cirtain angles, and i did.. along with the serial number and as much history of it as i knew. they replied back, and told me that they stopped doing pancake bodies in the late 1970s, that my guitar is a solid one piece body, with a carved maple top. (hurrah!) so as it stands, i feel liek i have the perfect balance of a LP that ive wanted. its a custom.. it has a volute, it has amaple neck, and it isnt a pancake body. it sounds absolutely amazing, and its heavey as hell, too! when my pod gets here, ill be making clips. and now onto the pics! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() there are naughty pics, but im not risking a ban ![]() ![]() -Myles EDIT: sorry, my room mates keyboard wasnt working (wireless), so when i hit enter, it wasnt working. i thought i used up all the space i could in the first post. oh, and i play rock. (more or less 70s-80s influenced) |

thanks guys!
im kind of in a state of shock, i feel like i didnt buy it, like it isnt mine. its all so surreal, but it is my dream guitar after all. any of you feel like that after buying something? it would be neat to get a lpc made on my birthday and year. Quote:
![]() i dunno, i just feel "complete". it's a big jump from what i used to play, haha. |

since kahlers need a routing on the top, i m assuming they did s light refinish. if you look veyr closely, in person, you can slightyl see a small line or two, from where they filled it. the guy i got it from said that retty much no one played it after the 2nd owner had it restored. |

i've NEVER played a guitar that was a "fretless wonder" as these are called, until now. im used to jumbo frets that was on my old esp eclipse ii, and the medium frets on my old 67' ri gibson V. as it stands, its alright, its my fault anyways. i havent played much at all, in the past year and a half. i have no more callusses on my finger tips, so bending on this is murder. you REALLY gotta hold down, since you have no room to dig in. bending right now is a pain in the ass, as all vibratos, and worse - vibratos while bending. im sure it will pass, i'll just need to get the proper technique for these frets down. ive been playing it non stop, my fingers are pretty bruised on the tips, but oh well. its a part of being a guitarist. at least it is super fast, you can play it with a very light touch. the neck is pretty slim, around a 60s shape i think, maybe even a little slimmer. |

I'd love an Ebony Custom. But they're Chambered nowadays. I DON'T want chambered models. I like em heavy. I also would like to age my own guitar so I'd like it brand new!
Any ideas guys?

Re: FINALLY got a LPC. (And hello to the board!)
The new ones are definitely chambered. Historics are Reissues and the only solid-bodied ones, Traditionals and Slashs are weight relieved. The rest are chambered.
Correct me if I'm wrong guys.
