Maple Fretboards

What do you guys think of the lighter wood fretboards.I like to have one on a Les with no inlays they don't seem to stand out much on the light wood anyway.

Re: Maple Fretboards

I like them on Strats, but I've never played a Paul with a Maple board.

I like the way it looks. I don't think I've ever seen one. But I love 'em on the strats and teles.

Re: Maple Fretboards

Interesting - never saw a LP with a maple board. I'd like to try it, might add some nice spank and would brighten up the tone (too much?). Would really be interesting to try on a VM model.

I didn't bookmark the main page, just the forums Good point, though, considering I voted for her.

Re: Maple Fretboards

I like the look on a Fender, but I am not that fond of how they feel due to the laquer or poly on them.

Re: Maple Fretboards

I like the feel of a maple freatboard. Ive only played a fender with a maple one, though. I think the feel in a lp will be nice too. not my cup of tea in a les paul, though

Re: Maple Fretboards

A maple fretboard might be neat... but the neck MUST remain mahogany in my opinion.

Of course, the fretboard wood that I prefer above all else is ebony. The pores are so small and the color is so even. It feels and looks great.

One negative, to me, for maple fretboards is that they normally require some sort of finish be it poly or something else. The fretboard is the wood of a guitar that sees the most aggressive contact on a regular basis. The finish is guaranteed to chip or receive some sort of other damage... like my old `79 hardtail Strat. The finish was cherry except for string burn on the 12-15 frets of the high E string.

Just my two-pence.

It does make for a striking look for a LP though. But... enough looking... play, play, PLAY!
