Re: I had an accident :(

It'll be good as new once you get her in for repair.

Gibson guitars are known for this week area and good luthiers know how to repair them.

Re: I had an accident :(

Thanks so much for the replies peeps It's comforting to know that so many guitarists seem to go through this kind of accident and that it's a common repair job

I am however just back from the city center after seeing a few guitar techs. The verdict is they cannot fix it The type of "compound fracture" is simply un-fixable, apparently.

There is hope though, they told me to contact a guy called Jimmy Moon who has a shop in the other side of town (Shawlands). He builds his own guitars and has been since the 70's. They said he has the tools and skills to be able to sort it with no problem I'll be taking a trip down there in a few hours so fingers crossed!

PS. Most of the guitar techs i spoke to said it would cost around £200 (around $400) to fix. A price i'm willing to pay in a heartbeat.

One of the places i went to, and also sadly said they couldn't fix it No idea if it was Billy though. Perhaps maybe worth trying there again. (Annoyingly enough, the BFG i want is in GuitarGuitar haha)

Re: I had an accident :(

Good news. The guitar is now in the safe hands of Jimmy Moon and i should get it back in 2 to 3 weeks. He says the finish shouldn't look too bad once the repair has been done so doesn't think a re-finish would have to be done. In the end, £70 for the repair!

Now, the question is, how will i get by 2 to 3 weeks with only an Epiphone SG to keep me company haha.

Re: I had an accident :(

It's good that you found someone that does know how to fix it properly. That's the key to something like this.

Take a minute, throw that stand in the garbage. Keep your guitars in their cases from now on. Accidents do happen, all you can do is to try to minimize the risk.

My thoughts exactly Ironically my cheap SG is in its case and only my Menace was out on its stand. No more guitar stands for me lol.

Re: I had an accident :(

That's almost as painful as breaking a limb, isn't it?

Could I make a suggestion? I don't use "open" stands anymore, I use one of these puppies:

Hercules Guitar Stand 432B

Heavy duty but not too heavy, portable, very stable even with 3 guitars on it, and the stand is self-locking when you rest a guitar in it. It would be very, very hard to knock over your guitar when in this stand or one like it, and I've brushed by mine more than once with no problems.

Just a thought!

Re: I had an accident :(

Cheers for the reply Yeah, Very painful indeed It's a Hercules stand the guitar was on lol. The thing is, i didn't knock it over, i lifted the stand and the guitar by the top of the stand and went to put it down without looking, thinking it was balanced, but it wasn't, the guitar had swung out at the bottom without me realising, and it fell over as soon as i let go Totally my fault.

Hercules are brilliant stands, don't get me wrong, but it got me thinking, having my guitar out on show 24/7 is just going to ask for things to hit it, scratch it, bash it etc...

Yeah....all my stuff is in hard cases...all the time...unless they are in my hands. I'm paranoid of my non-guitar playing friends...my cat..anything....keep them in the case!

Re: I had an accident :(

It is now a very happy day for me indeed. I got her back Jimmy done some tremendous work repairing it. Not only that, he has also lowered the action, thoroughly cleaned the frets and fretboard, and adjusted the tail piece for me She sings like a dream!

Some pics are below. Bare in mind, i said no to getting the finish re-done on the repaired area as i'm investing in getting the full guitar re-finished when the time comes Afterall, he's done a nice job of smoothing it out and actually feels like it hasn't had a break at all. Plus, adds personality to it me thinks hehe.
