Trad and Trad Pro sound

Hello, I just brought home a Traditional Pro (with P-90's) and have been comparing it with my Traditional that I've had for about a year. Both guitars sound great but sound very different unplugged. The trad had a thicker sound with more low frequencies. I expected them to sound different but not this much.

They both are made the same way (both swiss cheese) and from the same materials. It seems strange to me that they're so different unplugged.

Plugged in the trad pro is much more aggressive sounding than the trad. P-90's combined with the "thinner" acoustic sound I guess. The difference plugged in was expected though.

I'm assuming the difference in acoustic sound is just in the properties of the wood of a different tree?

Re: Trad and Trad Pro sound

I havent weighed them by themselves, but I got on a scale holding each guitar and they were less than a pound different. I expected the trad to be heavier but if it is, it doesn't seem to be much.

I would assume both of these models start with the same body?

Re: Trad and Trad Pro sound

The Pro is a GC exclusive. It's very possible it's finished different to save money and that is affecting the tone.

Well, they both sound great on their own, but I like the trad better. The pro sounded good enough at the store for me to bring it home. It really does sound good, but the trad has a thicker sound which I like. I'm a big fan of P-90s because of their more aggressive dirty sound so I got what I wanted.

Yea, same bodies. The differences are:

Pro has:
P-90s
satin sides and back
locking tuners with chrome keys
plastic jack plate

Nothing that should effect the unplugged sound.

Yes, it is a GC exclusive. It looks to be a 2pc body. can't tell about the maple cap since it's painted. The only cost cutting that's obvious is the satin finish on the back and sides. The front is a nice shiny gloss. It doesn't look like there's any cost cutting but it could be a lesser wood. It's relative anyway. Like I said, it sounds good and I know all guitars will sound a bit different.

Wood. Every piece is different. I have found a bright-sounding body and P90s to be an amazing combo, congrats.

Yea, I agree. The brighter body sounds great with the p-90s. The trad sounds exactly what I think a les Paul should sound like but the trad pro with p-90s is exactly what I was after with this guitar. More raw and aggressive. If I could only have one it would be the trad though.

Ya know what, they can call it whatever they want, I PREFER the satin finished back and neck. The fact that it costs less is just icing on the cake.

I'd probably be willing to pay slightly MORE for the satin back actually.

That said, an Iced Tea Traditional is still on my wish list.

Re: Trad and Trad Pro sound

I don't care for satin fronts but side and back/neck is fine. I'm used to gloss so I prefer it but the satin hasn't been a problem. I enjoy playing guitars the feel and sound different. If they were all the same we'd only need one. That's no fun.

+1

Of 4 LP's that I own, 3 are satin neck. My glossy-necked model gets the least play.
