Help with this Standard

I've seen this beauty last night and can't stop thinking about it. It's on ebay for $1,800 (around 1,300e).
1. Anybody has similar?
2. What can you tell me about it specs?
3. Is it worth $1,800 + $200 to get it to Serbia?

Few pics:

Thanx!

Re: Help with this Standard

I love those locking Grovers. I love that finish too.

It's worth as much as you're willing to spend on it I suppose.

I'm seeing an '88.

It looks nice to me, the price is up to you though. It's consistent with other sales etc.

I'd take $200 off for the worn thru finish.

Re: Help with this Standard

I'd see if they'd go $1700 but, if it's what you're wanting why not go for it?

Re: Help with this Standard

Well, thank you so far. I was expecting more like: "pickups are _____", "I have one and it's helluva player", "______ style neck". "swiss cheese holes" or something.
I compared it to local prices here and it's a bargain. Very nervous thoughts me selling this Classic PP if make a deal for this one.
Here are some Classic's specs so more experienced than me can help me to choose:
- one piece mahogany body and neck
- weight relief (4 kilos)
- '60 style short tenon neck
- 498T/490R combo
works fine, but desired one is Standard, you know THE Standard... shit, life is toooo short

Re: Help with this Standard

What year is your Classic? Looks like an earlier one. The Classic has an ABR bridge (generally considered better), thinner neck profile (matter of preference and playing style), better top (cosmetic) and different pickups (easily replaced with whatever you desire). Other than that they are basically the same guitar. The Standard is not now and never has been "The Standard" but a constantly evolving and changing guitar. If anything bar the pickups your Classic is closer to being a Standard than the ...er Standard.

That's definitely a wonderful guitar! Have you thought about customs though? Try to find out in ADVANCE what the regulations for Serbia are!

GOOD LUCK!!!

Re: Help with this Standard

Classic is great guitar. Made in 1996. Pickups are, hm, "hot" and (my humble opinion) the best for this piece of wood. I've tried 490T and Ibanez "Super 70". A bit weak to force wood to growl.
Top has never been so important to me. Black, flame or plain - like each of them separately depending of the rest of the guitar's parts - how everything looks together as one.
I was hoping Standards had their highlights and downstairs so someone could give me closer tip, like example on Youtube or "it's more for jazz than for rock and roll" blah,blah...
Regulations for Serbia... I've met a guy who buys guitars in the US and ships them to Serbia. The cargo contains more stuff - the rest of the price is lower. No customs in this case just $100 for the custom officer to look another way. It's like $100 for whole cargo of dozen hard shell cases. But each of buyers pays $100 + some extras for shipment in the US and over the Atlantic so the guy make nice money of this job. Everybody happy, wright?
I do like my Classic. I just hope I could buy better (the problem is there is always better) for the same money or not-much-above price I could sell this mine.
I was even thinking about stolen ones (R9 for $2,800) but a lot money for me. Yes, I am sorry someone got robbed but if I don't buy, someone else will.

Re: Help with this Standard

I think your Classic is hot, but you gotta do what you gotta do. I hope you decide to be the better person, and don't buy stolen. Gotta have something inside you that tells you it's the wrong thing to do.

I feel sorry (not really) for the bitch that tries to steal from me. BIG surprise awaits.

Re: Help with this Standard

My 86 had pretty low frets, I'm not sure but I think the 88 would as well.

Nice classic, though call but I'd probably stick with it.

Re: Help with this Standard

Well, first of all thanks for support.
Second, if you were me, you would think twice about stolen ones. I don't want to bust my own thread, only few facts. I know some guys who deal with stolen stuff over a decade. The most common thing is to have a deal with guitar store owners in Austria, Germany, France, Netherlands. The owner let them steal selected stuff and he refunds it through insurance company. Simple, isn't it? So few years ago I went to a guy who brought out dozen Gibsons. From Studio and DC to Standard, Custom, Explorer and 335. The cheapest was 1993. Studio (700e) and the most expensive was white Custom, early '80s with floyd (2,000e). 335 (from 1985.) was the best guitar I've played there and it was 1,500e. I didn't have money back then otherwise I would go home with 335.

1. No single guitar was stolen from owner, just from the store. No bad mojo there.
2. In Serbia there is a culture called "if you don't buy, somebody else will".
3. Police is corrupted and gets its share for every "unofficial deal". Once you got robbed, you never find it.

You, people from abroad, have good salaries. And the prices even better. $1,400 for LP Classic which is $2,000 in Serbia. And the choice of guitars is even better. I earn 500e per month and it is good comparing it to most people here. And I still have to eat and pay my bills. Go to vacation and buy a guitar once in a ten years. Sometimes you consider yourself like a kid who got some money from parents and on a way to playground met ice cream man. I am not superstitious and don't believe in bad mojo. Anyway I don't have that money to buy R9 and now I can't buy anything above mine Classic, no way back.
About moral: I help old people to cross the street, I push other people's car when they go outta gas, I donate stuff for the Red Cross, I feed dogs and cats wandering around my building, I call my mom twice a day
Sorry for mentioning all that stuff about stolen goods. No thread here.
Only wanted to hear "1988" owners about heir impressions.
And two more things:
1. How much would you give for my Classic?
2. Is $2,000 much for 1981. Standard in wine red, only SD '59 in it?

why don't you post the things you want in a LP.

type of frets, low or modern.
type of neck profile you prefer.
type of pups you've tried and liked etc.
budget?
types of music you play?
what amp you use, etc.

randomly picking years/models with different pricing isn't really working out so well is it?

not many of us are located in your market to say what is a good deal by you and what isn't.

all in all, your classic is really nice. completed listings here where i am show them selling for $1300-1500. but being here and not there i don't know if that has any real bearing on what you could get in your location.
