2011 Les Paul Standard 08 Neck Size...

So yesterday UPS delivered my new 2011 Les Paul Standard '08! I have wanted one since they came out, played one at a GC that I regret not buying, amazing flame and just a great playing and sounding guitar. Everything about the 08 standard to me is great, love the locking tuners, the
locking bridge and tail piece, i really like bustbucker pro pickups, the weight is GREAT and the asymmetrical neck was something that really appealed to me - they toted it as a hybrid of the 60's slim taper and the one I played a few years ago was killer.

So the one i got is killer, i really like it but I have to admit I am disappointed in the neck shape - it is a damn baseball bat! I was looking forward to the asymmetrical neck shape and seeing how my hands held up all night playing, it was one of the selling points to me along with the weight, the fact that they shaped the neck for comfort and longevity...and while the one i have
feels and plays great, the neck is definitely a 50's profile fat ole hunk of wood...so what gives with that, anyone??? Does Gibson now offer different neck shapes in the 08 standard?

Run your hand over it at around the 15th fret. You should be able to feel the transition back to a normal profile there. On mine its really evident. And yes it is a thick neck on top but give it some time. They really grow on you.

Looks great though! I played a '08 with a great neck @ the store, but the color was all wrong, so I ordered one in DB. The neck feels quite different, and it took quite some time to get used to it, but now, after getting used to it, it's def my fav guitar and I love the neck.

So yeah, like LPV said; give it some time! You'll probably end up loving it.

I'm a little confused. Is this a 2008 ('08) or a 2011 model year guitar?

The model is referred to as "2008 Standard" because that's when Gibson implemented these specs.

Thanks guys...i was just a little like...whoa this is different than the one I played a few years ago. I don't plan on getting rid of it or anything i am just so used to 60's necks and such i was hoping it would be a bit smaller...but I plan on giving it a very fair shot!!

Yeah mine is a 2001 desert Burst 2008 Standard...that is a mouthful alright!
